I saw him live in Orlando (Disney) at the 2001 Lotusphere.

It was an IBM/Lotus Notes convention at the peak of the .com craze. 10,000 person convention.

He shows up and did not know his audience. Techies are generally conservative. He started out slamming Bush. People didn't laugh, he then did some really nasty Bush comments and people started booing. He then raised his hand and said, "I know, I know.... I should have learned my lesson and stayed away from politics. A few years back I did a fund raiser for Pol Pot, then I saw the Killing Fields and (pause) I just felt like an ass."

After that he had us. He relaxed. His comments were free form and very funny.

That was using prepared, time tested stand by material. He can't handle instant stuff with any ability.

You have to have a special talent to do that.
That talent is scarce on the left IMO!

Can he take a long time to come up with potential funny writings? Sure, but he is not a talented improvisational person. For radio, that is the kiss of death.
