Condoleezza Rice on 60 Minutes Live Thread [7pm EST, Sunday 3/28]
CBS News ^ | 3-28-04 | CBS News

I was waiting for this to go up. We're about t-minus one hour from it (depending on how long Duke-Xavier goes, I guess). Too bad it's not going to be a long interview like Clarke had. I've noticed that 60 Minutes are not promoting this either. The commercial I just saw advertised the story on soccer phenom Freddy Adu, not the story on Rice or Pickering. I also discovered from the link referenced above that Rice spoke to them this morning and not yesterday as I'd heard would be the case before. Bill Kristol predicted this morning that Rice might say that if this is really such a big deal that she'll testify in public under oath as she's been badgered to do. I don't think Bill has a good track record on predicting news, so take that with a grain of salt. By the way, go Xavier-- I had Duke losing before now in my office pool bracket, but my opponents have them winning it all.

If gas is $3/gallon this summer, Bush is toast.

And if that's the case, then I hope the terrorist destroy us all since we'll deserve it. First, the "gas will be $3 a gallon" crap is predicted almost every year. Don't like it? Then tell the environmental idiots to stop forcing reformulated fuel on us. Tell Congress to stop ethanol BS funding. Tell your government to stop taxing a gallon of gas to death. Everyone is so quick to blame evil capitalism, including so-called conservatives and Republicans, rather than government which taxes the hell out of it.

If the majority of Americans are so braindead that they think jobs, gasoline prices, and other minor considerations are more important than survival against a sworn enemy then I'm going to dig a big hole in the ground, take care of my own defenses and wave goodbye to every idiot that believes they are better off with the likes of a Kerry or Clinton.

Good riddance when the terrorist blow them all up because by that time I just won't give a crap any longer.

Yep, I'm a selfish bastard. Sue me. But try and get in my shelter, and I'll blow their heads off. They had their chance and they blew it.

Condi not testifying under oath or in public is a separation of powers thing. She was appointed by the President, not subject to Congressional confirmation as Cabinet officers are.

The Executive branch is preserving the right of the President to be advised,no holds barred, without Congressional oversight. He does not wish to set a precedent.

The Commission is a child of the Congress, done to satisfy the 911 families and for the dems to take their shots at this administration. The chair and co chair want to take out the partisan bias in the final report.I wish them good luck.

"I am so tired of having to write CBS complaining. But, time to fire off another email. I am starting to note the sponsors. Time to copy them!"

Your instincts are correct. Confusion to the enemy. Why waste your breath trying to help your enemy 'get in touch'? If you want to help a program, please don't waste your time on the alphabet channels: a-bs, n-bs, and see-bs. Let them think everyone loves them. If anything, tell them they are too conservative. Let them run off the cliff like lemming. Better yet, your precious time can better be spent doing other things. That would be my general advise.

Swordmaker on post 501 saw indications of a splice-and-dice job. That is what I and others predicted. Also Dianna [post 513] noticed similar signs of splicing. Great work by Swordmaker and Dianna. This has the potential to backfire bigtime in 60 Minutes' face. There are earlier interviews where you can see other splice jobs. Chris Ruddy openly talked about how he was spliced. Now is the time to expose these creeps for what they are.

Well, I don't see how maybe he did, maybe he didn't, and you never know.....brings anything at all to the table.

Ijaz is waffling and many of us have long had that impression.

"They already got Tenant & Rumsfeld - and Cheney and the President will be later - privately. "

I think Rice is included. But if the Democrats get their way, there’d be another round in public.

The final report will deliniate none of the information that would be favorable to this administration.

I don't think the new policy was actually implemented because it was still being developed. Condi said pre-9/11 the WH policy that was executed was the Clinton plan, but they were preparing to shift to a new plan.

Exactly. One of the chief weaknesses in the entire Democratic argument is that Bush had no strategy against terrorism. Well, being a new administration, one shouldn't have expected them to do anything other than continue Clinton's policy (such as it was) early on. In April, the CIC decided to change policy. Bush wanted something far more agressive. He got a change in strategy-on September 10th.

The weakness is simple: by criticizing Bush's approach pre-September 11th, Democrats are implicitly arguing against Clinton and Clintonism.

The Bush people are waiting until the right moment to drive home this point. Condi will be the instrument that they will use to destroy the rationale behind the entire Democratic Party approach to the war. And she'll do it in public hearings. Trust me on this; the Democrats are falling for the old Briar Patch trick from the Uncle Remus tales.

Bush is waiting for John Kerry to open up his big fat mouth and scream "if the Bush Administration has nothing to hide, Condoleezza Rice would testify!" or somesuch nonsense. Then the trap will be sprung.

Or, as the Chinese used to say; "Beware of what you wish for. You might get it."

Be Seeing You,

Chris

60 Minutes received yet another letter from me this morning. Was I surprised by last night? No. Am I ticked off anyway? Yep.

Dear 60 Minutes,

I grew up watching and enjoying 60 Minutes in the 70s/80s, but I haven't been much of a fan for years now because you've lost my trust. Last night, though, I tuned in after hearing (via the Internet, since you weren't bothering to promote it like you did Richard Clarke's verbal jihad) that Dr. Rice would be on the show. I figured 60 Minutes must have been raked over the coals for that blatant hatchet job from the week before and was now trying to make amends. So what did I see?

-STILL no mention of CBS' (Viacom's) financial stake in Dick Clarke's book

-Not a hint of Dick Clarke's CONFLICTING STATEMENTS in Aug 02, in his resignation letter, and in a publicly released E-mail to Dr. Rice.

-Descriptions of White House response as "attacks" and "ferocious."

-A focus on more attacks in 30 months since 9/11 than 30 months before, while simultaneously completely minimizing the successful capturing and killing of hundreds and hundreds of terrorists and Al Qaeda's leadership.

-No putting into perspective that an administration in transition had been in place less than 8 months, while the previous administration had 8 years in which to ignore multiple Al Qaeda attacks against U.S. interests.

-A fairly hostile Ed Bradley interrupting and badgering the National Security Adviser.

Clarke has been completely discredited. How you can present that smoldering feces as news is beyond me.

When you led into Judge Pickering's spot by claiming the Dems were retaliating against the GOP (with no mention of JUDGE BORK or of the unprecedented filibusters), I grabbed the remote.

CBS News has truly become a joke. And you continue to wonder why nobody trusts network news anymore.

Sincerely,
Coop

Good letter, Coop. I didn't watch it but read Freeper accounts here. Very tacky of CBS, plus why do they choose Ed Bradley to question her? Wasn't she qualified to be questioned by Leslie Stahl?

Did CBS advertise Dr. Rice's appearance the way they did Clarke's, anyone know?

No. They hardly promoted it. You heard nothing about it on the Sunday Morning Talkies, either, which means that CBS didn't get the crucifixion it was looking for.

Chris

Absolutely not. The 60 Minutes promos all focused on a 14-year old soccer star. The only mention outside of FR that I heard/saw was a quick promo by an announcer during one of the basketball games yesterday afternoon.

Figures. Did the show last night ever mention the conflict of interest it neglected to reveal last week?

CBS failed because they had to use recycled clips of Clarke to force their point and Rice towards the end started to take CBS to task over terrorism. CBS fumbled the ball and Rice ran with it at the end.

.

That final Plan to eliminate Al Qaeda was due to be put on BUSH's Desk on September 10, 2001. This plan came from CONDI's NSC, TENET's CIA, RUMSFELD's DoD and other Government Agencies.

Many CLINTON-Appointed Government Agency people were still in place during the forming of this plan =

The Enemy Within CLINTONS knew of the Plan's targeted date of September 10, 2001 for its landing on BUSH's Desk.

September 11, 2001 =

"Take that, Mr. BUSH"

Well, it wasn't during Condi's segment. In short, it wasn't full disclosure. It was pathetic.
