FR DNS problems...
today | self

Posted on 03/25/2004 7:48:57 AM PST by general_re

DNS lookups failing for FR here - no such host. Apparently I'm not the only one, judging from a glance at the Yahoo FR board. Dunno if it's my ISP (Verizon) or what, but I had to manually edit the hosts file to get here. Presumably, if you can post, you're not having this problem, but there are more than a few people who can't post right now because of it...

I FOUND FREEREPUBLIC!!!!!

With the server down I was having flashbacks to 10 years ago when I still smoked and couldn't find a pack of smokes lying around the house!

And, not being too computer savvy, I was thinking I might have said something wrong and got banned! (But then I saw the WELCOME BACK GEOPYG when I signed on again!) I did say I thought in hindsight Bush's WMD jokes were easy fodder for the dems to attack. He should have said "I wonder if Saddam's hiding under there?"

Anyway - good to be back

There has been DNS denial attack on major DNS root servers. Some of major web sites are down still ....some are not effected.
It looks like attacks are going in channel mode, which means one server receives attack and spreads out to other servers.

Welcome back to the fold...

It was a tough several hours, wasn't it?

"File not found", I kept getting. Because of the time difference down here, I went to bed... and had nightmares about the Rats shutting down this site for good...

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Imagine my relief when I found some kind poster (I'm sorry, I'm awful with names - but whoever you are, BLESS YOU) on the Yahoo Group FreeRepublic2 had left instructions on how to get in.

But did ya have to mention smokes? I'm trying to give up... again :-(

I emailed the few freepers that I know well enough to be able to have their home email address with this backup site. (By the time they receive their email-problems may be corrected?)

This will help as well when FR goes down. Just dont have all posts go to your inbox or you'll spend all day deleting messages.

I was a day and half without FreeRepublic....and losing IQ points FAST!!!
The only way I found this site was to click on FreeRepublic Radio Chat.
I was going through some "serious" withdrawls!!
Glad to be back and see familiar "faces" again!
Going to "soak" up the posts......cya'll :-)

Actually, the Peanut Farmer was a nuclear sub captain (which, in Rickover's Nuclear Navy, is essentially the same as being a scientist).

Jacqui, you missed absolutely nothing by missing the Peanut Farmer's Presidency. Things were so bad economically (double-digit inflation, interest rates and unemployment, combined with no growth in the economy) that a new term had to be invented - stagflation.

Still can't locate server via DNS lookup at 7:20 AM 3/26 in New Hampshire.

Logon via ip address 209.157.64.200 works fine.

Do I need to clear out the old cookies for DNS to work, or does it just need more time?
