FR DNS problems...

DNS lookups failing for FR here - no such host. Apparently I'm not the only one, judging from a glance at the Yahoo FR board. Dunno if it's my ISP (Verizon) or what, but I had to manually edit the hosts file to get here. Presumably, if you can post, you're not having this problem, but there are more than a few people who can't post right now because of it...

I read through about a dozen of the threads from last year (and you both know what a time commitment that is with the 4-7000 posts)...on the anniversary when Ragtime posted the Situation room one year later thread. What fun! What memories.
I was brand new to FR & got a baptism of fire (meaning NO sleep, mind expansion, and learned about "dependency".). I depended on all of you as I had NO cable/dish..
Great memories. I have all the threads saved. My first day was day 5. Several Freepers have put all on CDs. I would love to buy a set, if available

I would love a set. I was too stupid not to bookmark them for some reason.

Let me guess; you never closed your browser (which makes you smarter than me)As a matter of fact I didn't, but that was truly dumb luck.:)

Wish I had thought of burning them to CD. Oh well.
Speaking of sleep, unless I want a keyboard-shaped forehead, I better call it a night.

I was watching too! I heard the very first hit. The first bomb to fall. I had just put my jedis to bed and sat down...had the speakers all the way up because you could hear something like birds tweeting or chimes...then ka-BLAM!!! I nearly fell over backward! Scrambled to turn down my speakers and by then the jedis had jumped out of bed and were saying "Have they started???" I said "They've started."
Then we prayed.

Someone better start a thread about the emails that are going out to all freepers from Jim Robinson.
For a moment I thought I had been singled out for this honor, or perhaps being handed my pink slip.
I almost replied, but then realized that everyone is probably getting them.

I was getting "page not found" last night and this morning, Australian time. I finally found where I'd hidden the bookmark for FR2 (the Yahoo Group) and someone there had posted the numbered URL (I hesitate to call it the "Old-fashioned URL" lest someone throw a 386 at me!!! LOL) and lo and behold... I'm back and...
absolutely nobody has missed me.
Meh. :-)

You just haven't found the "We miss you" thread yet (been busy trying to wrangle people in through the back door).

Hey, RW. Earlier you posted the traffic differential (I think you quoted 1/30 or 3%) - where'd you get that?
Thanks.

What's the " back door " way? Using the IP address (209.157.64.200) to log in (which isn't a problem for you as you're here).

I found the IP address through seattle.politics. They were bashing Free Republic but somebody gave out the IP. Hah! Glad to be back.

I trust the first part wasn't aimed at Jacqui (I have broken my share of mirrors :-)

It's a lot faster for me. It could be a coincidence, but FR is now loading like cable again where the last week it was loading like 56k.That could be because the server was overloaded due to the 9/11 commission hearings, and now there are far fewer people than normal on FR due to this weird problem.

I'm a computer moron and I have no idea what the technical problems are, but............
Had it not been for a friend e-mailing me, I would not have been able to access FR. I expect others are unable and don't know what to do.
Is it possible to send an e-mail to all registered Freepers and let them know? I have noticed the posting is less than usual and I suspect the current problem is the reason.
To: steveegg
I don't have the faintest idea how I ended up being able to log on...I just went looking and finally got here...
Thank heaven! I was getting the FR shakes! ;-D
