Anyone able to ping www.freerepublic.com yet?

I know it takes time to propogate the DNS info.

Just like to know if the parts of the US or the world are able to ping the domain yet.

FWIW: FR went out this morning at around ~10:30 EST. I couldn't get on all day. I didn't have the alternate sites bookmarked at my work computer.

I finally got back on through the 'backdoor' that was posted on the Yahoo site @ 7:30 PM.

Now that I'm on I gotta go and make dinner. What a mess.

Bye.

Still not found from Earthlink - I finally went to Radio FR and went to the IRC where I was directed to the .info alias. So now I'm in...

It's sort of fun being on a small site again, but I know lots and lots of folks are still out in the cold. It's been quite a while since we had to go to Yahoo to get info. Though I remembered the address, probably a lot of the newer folks have never used it or even know about it.

Question for you server types: I've posted a few articles today that I've pinged Freepers about. Do those pings stay in the server until the Freeper logs back on, or have they been lost and they should be pinged again?

The pings are all here, so they'll be there when those who haven't been able to log on get here.

This DNS problem is not just with Free Republic. I have been experiencing intermittent problems with other sites as well.

Cyber-terrorism?

I found my way in a bit unconventionally. Was unaware of the Yahoo board, so I did a WHOIS search [learned about that during my anti-spam jihad] on freerepublic.com
http://whatismyipaddress.net/index.php/wi

That provided an e-mail addy, got a prompt reply about alternate domain.

Anybody interested in my battle with the spammers [which has led to several websites being taken down for TOS violations]:
http://mason.gmu.edu/~walford/anti-spam.html

Funny thing though. My intensified campaign against spammers coincides with a 90% drop in traffic to my site. Apparently I have raised the ire of the search engine gremlins.

I wonder if GKGnet (or whatever they call themselves) had a bunch of these issues hanging fire and then shut them all down at once. Don't have a clue as to how they operate, but that seems like one way more than one domain could be affected at the same time.

I was upset that I couldn't get on FR today. I finally got through via Fark.com. They have a lot of lefty-loonies there, but their photoshop contests and article titles are hilarious.
