FR DNS problems...

DNS lookups failing for FR here - no such host. Apparently I'm not the only one, judging from a glance at the Yahoo FR board. Dunno if it's my ISP (Verizon) or what, but I had to manually edit the hosts file to get here. Presumably, if you can post, you're not having this problem, but there are more than a few people who can't post right now because of it...

Wouldn't that raise your insurance rates, though? Not if I do it on foot (despite what your football coach taught you, it's best to go right at the center of gravity :-)

"Anyway, for me the message is clear - GKG just got scratched off the list of potential registrars in my book. I've never dealt with them before, and you can bet that I never will, either."
Well, when I first created my site, there was only one registrar that I knew of. I've never had a single problem with the Network Solutions outfit. Even though it's a little more expensive now, I see no reason to change either it or the hosting company I use.

Anyway, for me the message is clear - GKG just got scratched off the list of potential registrars in my book. I've never dealt with them before, and you can bet that I never will, either.
And this, my friends, is the story of customer service. Had GKG taken the effort and called or contacted the others in the domain record, such as the administrative contact or the technical contact, we might have had a post telling us about how GKG helped, and since my domains just are about up for renewal, I likely would have become one of their customers.
Instead, they're losing business because no one could take the effort to pick up the phone. Myself, it would have only been 14 domains, not even $120 worth of business.. Say $1000 over ten years. Small change; until you repeat it by others who will hear about this problem and also refrain from using GKG, and to tell others to avoid it as well.
Whomever it was that said it was the small things that makes the difference was talking about just this type of thing.. Customer Service: Your best advertising; your worst enemy.

My biggest issue with Network Solutions was over the lack of notice for a renewal. It eventually turned out that a computer bug had changed my expiration date; a bug that the company didn't admit until presented with their invoice/reciept/cancelled check.
I'm on the hunt for a good registar right now; as I said, gkg.net couldn't have picked a worse time, in my case, to do this.

I went to DU - I knew they would be gloating but they gave me the info I needed to get back in here. Now I need to go take a shower.

I've been using Go Daddy for almost a year, no problems.
I do have this issue posted to them in a customer service request. I want to know if they would do this GKG crap to one of their customers.
If I get a response I'll post it to this thread. Or you can write me by freep email to find out later what Go Daddy would do.

50 bucks says the people who didn't make the call are liberalsYup--that's my guess, too. Sabotage. I may be paranoid, but--I don't think the Kerry campaign wants us discussing Dick Clarke's previous radio interview where he clearly blames the Clinton admin for dropping the ball on Al Quaeda.
Think about it. Who benefits most when FR is offline?

Then it should work the same with Mac OSX (now that JohnRob has fixed the logon so that the IP address will work, though, it's not absolutely necessary to use the hosts workaround anymore).

It's up far enough so we can log in with the IP address, but the DNS'es are not updated yet.
