Matt Reilly, also known as 'harpseal' on Free Republic, died on March 19, 2004.
His friend Eileen is making arrangements for a Memorial service at the local VA.
Matt was a former Navy SEAL, a keen businessman, a friend to his Walker Hound, and an accomplished sailor.
He was also my friend and my business partner. I can't barely see the keyboard through my tears. He will be missed greatly.

Smile and know he's with the love of his life now........Mary Ann "Perry" Reilly .
I am grateful for the times I visited with Matt and Mary Ann. They were very kind to me and sent me homemade maple syrup from time to time. Matt and Mary Ann will always be the defination of human kindness in my dictionary. They cared for others as much as they cared for each other.
Laz please let Ms Fitzpatrick know how much Matt spoke of her and for being there for our friend when he needed her.
With that said lets shed a tear and hoist a beer in celebration of the life of a damn fine American.........
Stay safe Ya'll

There are never enough good men. The loss of even one good man is terrible to bear.
Harpseal is out of the fight now, though he wished so to stay with us and share our burden.
Let us all order our lives so that we will be welcomed to that table where those who have done their duty gather in fellowship (and a for a few beers, and a few laughs) in that place to come where there are no more tears.

I am truly at a loss for words. Harpseal was one of the very few posters on FR that I made a point to read.
I did so out of great respect for his service to the United States, and his keen intellect. I sought to know his opinion on the topics of the day.
I am among those who will miss him deeply, and yet I cannot say that I knew him well, as I was never lucky enough to meet him in person.
Those that knew him best are in my thoughts and prayers, for I know enough to realize the greatness of their loss.
Godspeed Harpseal.

The Horse is down,
The Rider has dismounted.
Now the Rider may rest.
Laz, My prayer is that God grant you, and indeed all of us, the strength and will to maintain our mount and remain in the saddle until our ride is done

I agree with you 100%, but we felt we needed to respect his wishes to keep his pain private until the end. of course.. you did the right thing.. but thank you for letting us know, even after the fact.

Because Matt is dead, the only thing I can do that is constructive is to stay sober by any means necessary.Draw strength from your friendship with Matt and from God. It works for me.
