I don't think there was any coincidence in the two actions coming so close together. I think the Socialists knew the attack was coming and were ready with their public pronouncements in order to take advantage of the public's grief and fear.

I have no information that the socialists had entered negotiations with AQ before the attack. Honestly, I would guess that they didn't...but, the question you raise is one that a less biased press would be interested in.

When Reagan's threats got the Iranian embassy hostages released the press spent months investigating whether he negotiated with the Iranians - so they have no problem investigating such leftwing conspiracy theories...

Of course, with actual evidence of those who were bribed by Saddam in the west - the press still doesn't care...
