Tammy Faye diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Tammy Faye Messner, the former wife of televangelist Jim Bakker, announced Thursday night she has inoperable lung cancer.

Messner, a guest on CNN's "Larry King Live," said she was told of the diagnosis two weeks ago.

As much as I detest grifting televangelists and the way they pray on emotionally impressionable people down on their luck, Tammy Faye, was so pathetic you felt almost sorry for her. Her tons of makeup, gaudy maddam-like fake eyelashes, a drooling affection for her ex-husband minister even in the face of his sexual escapades (shades of Hillary?), their legal troubles, and a rollercoaster life in the media made her a target of ridicule two decades ago. I hope she recovers from her health problems and continues to enjoy her life.

It wasn't a four year sentence. He was sentenced to FORTY FIVE years! I believe it was the harshest sentence for mail fraud in the history of the US. It was reduced on appeal -- as well it should have been. He served 5 years.

You know one thing about Tammy Faye, I never heard her cut down and insult anyone. No matter what horrible mean things people said about her, she just kept on going. And she is not at all bitter and she's able to laugh at herself and be at peace with the past. What else matters?

Isn't TBN the one with the lady with the huge hair and the gawdy makeup? I cringe every time I'm flicking thru the channels and see that show. I think Tammy has come a long way from her PTL days.
