The shadenfreude on this thread is puerile and repugnant. A terrorist attack on France would be equally appalling to a terror attack anywhere.
I am as disgusted with the French leadership as anyone on this thread and continue to withhold my custom from anything French in protest. However, the war of Islamic totalitarianism is Islam vs. the infidels. The majority of French, appalling as their current leadership may currently be, are still our infidel allies in the war. We need to think how to get the French on our side (which will certainly involve a change of leadership) rather than further alienating them.

Mr. Mojo, you are wrong, but it's a common misconception, I blame the media for that and the fact that the "Authorities" cover up direct and serious threats as found out recently in France.
It has been out of contact with the government since its demands became public this week, despite a plea by the Interior Ministry for the media not to reveal any details. Police sources said the group had vowed last month to start exploding bombs if the government failed to keep secret the contacts which started last December. "Perhaps contact will be renewed. I hope so, but today we have no more contact," Claude Gueant, an aide to Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, told RTL radio on Friday. A police source said: "The danger is now greater than ever. Here are some more news stories you might want to read about threats and claims.

Senate elections in Sept. But they aren't going after senate elections. They will bomb because of a headscarf ban.

How can this be? Appeasement works. Kerry and Spain say it does.

You and I know that.
The French do not!

Looks like Frances appeasement strategy got flushed right down the bidet.

No surprise here. Last month, al-Zawahiri released two tapes....one to the U.S., the other to France. He stated then that France would be hit in the near future because of their ban on hijabs (headscarves).
I believe that's why Chirac freaked out like he did when Spain was attacked last week....too close for comfort and he knows france is most likely next on the list. My guess is this is the main topic of discussion with Schroeder(sp?) today.

Or we could hold an anti war protest when they gear up to go after their terrorists, and denounce them as war mongers.

Me, too. Can't help feeling a sly sense of satisfaction. This shouldn't come as any big surprise, though. The Muslim nuts aren't smart enough to exercise patience until they get all their Euroweenies in a row. No, they want total capitulation tout suite! Well, with the French, they just might get it.

Is it France that has the Foreign Legion? I forget... Anyway, if it is France, then what is the attraction for people all over the globe to want to join the Foreign Legion? I don't get it.
To: mtbopfuyn
When al qaeda attacked Bali didn't many French get killed? Now France just needs an attack within their homeland and maybe they will pull out of supporting the overall terror war completely. Since they are not in Iraq, I guess they would withdraw from Afghanistan!
To: Schatze
The French will probably try to go through the UN on this first, meanwhile blaming us for everything but the last ice age. That might be their strategy: If the terrorists demand that the US capitulate,( get out of the Middle East, pay reparations in gold until the end of time, install a Muslim potentate as pres, etc., ad nauseum, and then they'd be nice to Europe), we'd be pressured by the idiot UN and Euroweenies to do just that. Of course this wouldn't work, but if Kerry got in, God forbid, he'd be on his hands and knees before Osama before you could say pass the ketchup.

The French won't ally with the US. They'll move heaven and earth to get the UN to do something...that way they save face, remain a major player on the Security Council, and continue to slap us around. If they suffer bomb blasts, etc., they'll blame Bush as will the terrorists. They'll try to blackmail us into capitulating in order to save Europe. It won't work. By then we'll have moved on to Iran. To paraphrase the inimitable Bette Davis, "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night."

Not that the terrorists needed the morale boost the Spanish Socialists just gave them - they aren't easily deterred - but it just pains me to see this happening.
My real worry is that the US has so been inured to creeping totalitarianism via the left, that it's not a far stretch to see half of this country likewise capitulate.
