THOSE ADS, 9/11 AND ME

Edited on 05/26/2004 5:20:12 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

March 16, 2004 -- I HAVE followed with interest the discussions regarding the Republican Party's use of some footage from 9/11 in its presidential ad campaign. And like many others, my impressions are based on personal experience: I was stationed at the Pentagon on 9/11.

Remember, immediately after the attack on the WTC, the leftists demanded that all graphic images related to the attacks be withheld from the public media so as not to cause the families of those who were murdered that day any additional pain from having to re-live it.

Well, it's working. The real strategy is not to eliminate the pain, but to make us all FORGET the very REASON that we are fighting this war.

A recent poll showed that more Americans are concerned about the economy and jobs than the War on Terror. With any luck, the bombings in Madrid should put the leftist-inspired fantasy that terrorism is no longer a threat to rest.

Frankly, the Madrid bombings should have Kerry and the rest of the DNC in an unrestrained panic because their political position has given aid and comfort to the enemy and emboldened them to commit that attack on Spain.

Were I Bush, I would put an ad together that shows those two airliners hitting the twin towers, the damage to the Pentagon, the bombings in Madrid and the devasted families in the aftermath and ask this question at the end: "Think it can't happen again?"

Let the voters assimilate THAT message for a few months and Kerry won't have a prayer.

I honestly feel that the ads neither insult the living nor disrespect those who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day.

Thank you Sir, I just wish that the media would report more opinions like this from the honorable side.

Thank you for posting this powerful letter, kattracks.

His words count for every precious Soldier's life lost today.

Our press mocks our troops and our military daily (by intent and/or ignorance) by hyping our losses without understanding the sacrifices or the character of our troops, why they volunteer to serve.

The press mocks the victims of 9-11.

Maybe this letter will soften a few hearts, and steel a few spines.

Passing it on to a few hundred troops, Veterans, supporters who will pass it on, and to the press.

Thanks for the ping, Coop.

Frankly, the Madrid bombings should have Kerry and the rest of the DNC in an unrestrained panic because their political position has given aid and comfort to the enemy and emboldened them to commit that attack on Spain.

Frankly I have not been a huge supporter of our invasion on Iraq. Afghanistan I could see - no problem they harbored our enemy(I have a brother who is still there). But I saw no connection between our enemies and Iraq. I had (they have since returned safely) two nephews in Iraq, I we as a family we unwilling to risk their lives simply to free a nation from Saddam. To be honest with you I don't think either country will ever be our friends because I believe that Islam is incompatible with the rest of the world.
However, the attacks in Spain have showed me that Iraq did support our enemies. If not then why would the terrorists be attacking Spain for helping us in a venture that they had no interest?
If nothing else these attacks in Spain should help Bush with those who were like me, very skeptical of the reasoning for going into Iraq.
As for Mr. Kerry, he has proven that there is nothing too shamefull for him. I agree with your statement:
the Madrid bombings should have Kerry and the rest of the DNC in an unrestrained panic
But it probably won't because they maintain the position that we should just leave them alone and they will leave us alone. That's the same mentality that allowed Hitler to gain so much at the beginnign of WWII.

Saddam was a major State sponsor of terrorism. They found Abu Nidal in Iraq, as well as papers establishing that Iraq harbored Al-Qaeda and provided a safe haven for training operations.

Since we simply can't kill them all, we had to understand the role humiliation can play in defeating terror. Taking out one thug in a gang simply makes the gang stronger against you, taking out a thug and the acknowledged leader of the gang causes confusion within, loss of support without, and the humiliation factor required for capitulation. There simply is no scenario whereby terror can be dealt with which doesn't include the sacking of their most powerful symbol, which WAS Saddam Hussein and Iraq.

"In the end, it is comforting to know that my military service, in small part, has protected those rights and freedoms and, like all those who defend this country, helps make it possible for Americans to engage in this exchange."

IT'S THE SOLDIER

It's the soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the
PRESS.

It's the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of
SPEECH.

It's the soldier, not the campus
ORGANIZER,
Who has given us the freedom to
DEMONSTRATE

It's the soldier, not the lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a
FAIR TRIAL.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag,
Serves under the flag
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.
