Wonder what the entire story is? Had the drunk driver already cause accidents and/or injuries? Had the police tried to stop the drunk driver without force already? Had the drunk driver already tried to hit a cop?

I'd like the entire story before passing judgement. A drunk driver is hardly a harmless passer-by.

Well, the movie appears to have been taken down already. I'm still lookings, so stay tuned, but you'll understand that this guy was no threat.

He was shot after 13 minutes of hysterical yelling by this officer.

I'll do my best to find the video, my apologies.

May not be a "harmless passerby", but does DUI give the police the right to implement a death sentence without a judge and a jury.

Trooper involved in shooting returns to patrol duties

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper who shot a fleeing drunken driving suspect in the back last June has returned to her patrol duties.
Kevin Ward, acting public safety commissioner, said he could not disclose any disciplinary action that may have been taken against Trooper Laketa Anderson ''because it is a personnel matter.''

Ward, however, said she has resumed her patrol duties with Troop A in Oklahoma City.

Last month, Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane said Anderson made ''a split-second mistake'' when she shot Justin Lyle Thomas, but charges against the trooper were not warranted.

Anderson, 24, is the first female, black trooper to graduate from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy and has been a trooper for 1ð years.

The shooting occurred after Anderson pulled Thomas over for speeding on Interstate 35 in south Oklahoma City and gave him a sobriety test.

A OHP videotape showed Thomas, 21, was shot as he fled toward his truck. He has recovered from his wounds.

Gee, if we followed that logic, cops couldn't shoot someone pointing a gun at them without the consent of a judge and jury first. Like I said, we need more info to pass judgement here.

OK, that gives us a little more info. Sounds like it was not a justifiable use of force according to guidelines. However, the drunk was apparently wanting to flee in his vehicle, which would have severely endangered other motorists. So I don't feel much pity for the guy.

To the best of my knowledge, NO States permit the shooting of a fleeing misdemeanant, including drunk drivers.

Depends on what was going on at the time. If the driver was an immediate threat to others and refused to cooperate with the police officer, then yes, she had the right to shoot him.

Here's how to get the video to work:

It's RealPlayer, so sorry if you don't have it.

Open RealPlayer (I use RP One) and paste the link directly into the location box within RP. You'll understand the story then, one of the worst I've seen.

Paste this link into RP: http://ada.oklahoman.net/ramgen/real/save/trooper_shooting.rm

Sorry again, but it'll be worth it.

Well, the guy was resisting being handcuffed and became very uncooperative.

That officer is the most foul mouthed female LEO i've ever heard. She exhibited zero skill at taking control of the situation, was derogatory in her language and seemed to enjoy tormenting the driver of the car with her overbearing unprofessional chit-chat and threats.

I hope she gets the golden boot and the OHP gets sued for allowing such incompetence in its ranks.

I watched the entire clip. Clearly a bad showing for the cop. Unprofessional from the get go. From the moment she got out of the car she was too emotional towards the citizen. He was not combative, but confused and later scared. The shooting was unjustified and clearly uneeded. I support my local cops, always have. This was uncalled for.

A while back in LA there was the Eula Love shooting. Its now a textbook case of how not to do things, though both officers were cleared of wrong doing. This one is just about as bad. In a professional organization she might have been canned for it. Given her status as the 1st black woman to be a trooper..., it appears that she was given a bit more leeway than was deserved.

That woman shouldn't even go to the bathroom without a partner.

She needs to be trained for more suitable work.

" That woman shouldn't even go to the bathroom without a partner. "

Yeah the whole incident was out of control. My big question is why was there not another officer present. I'm not sure how remote the location was, but around here( Indiana) I'm pretty sure its common practice for another LEO to be on the scene for a suspected dui, lends credibility to the field sobriety test. Almost 15 minutes pass and this officer is still solo?
