Ann Coulter Says Muslims 'Smell Bad'; CAIR: Media Should Reject Commentator's Bigotry
3/10/2004 3:34:00 PM
WASHINGTON, March 10 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today called on major media outlets to end their association with a controversial conservative pundit who recently suggested that Muslims "smell bad." The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said syndicated columnist Ann Coulter, who frequently appears as a guest on cable news programs, made that Islamophobic remark in a recent commentary on Mel Gibson's new film "The Passion of the Christ."
Coulter wrote: "Being nice to people is, in fact, one of the incidental tenets of Christianity (as opposed to other religions whose tenets are more along the lines of 'kill everyone who doesn't smell bad and doesn't answer to the name Mohammed'). She also referred to: "(The Prophet) Muhammad's many specific instructions to kill non-believers whenever possible."

"We believe strongly in freedom of speech and support Ann Coulter's right to hold even bigoted and hate-filled views," said CAIR Communications Coordinator Rabiah Ahmed. "But credible media outlets should not associate themselves with or serve to legitimize such overt racism and Islamophobia." Ahmed called on newspapers that publish Coulter's column and on cable news channels that invite her as a guest commentator to reconsider promoting someone who spreads virulent hatred and intolerance.
Coulter has made a number of similarly anti-Muslim comments since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Immediately following the attacks, she suggested that "we should invade their (Muslim) countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." Coulter wrote in Worldnetdaily.com: "While Judaism and Christianity begin with the Creation, Islam reveres a God who creates nothing."
When asked whether she would recommend "Muslim-free air travel," Coulter said: "This is my idea...I think airlines ought to start advertising: 'We have the most civil rights lawsuits brought against us by Arabs.'" When asked how Muslims would travel, she responded: "They could use flying carpets." (Guardian, 5/17/03) Coulter also referred to Middle Easterners as "camel riding nomads" and said Egyptians have an "aversion to bathing."
CAIR is America's largest Islamic civil liberties group.

I adore Ann BECAUSE she eviscerates the left. Someone from our side has to. When I think about the non-stop bashing the left has given our President over the past few months - unanswered for the most part - I thank God we have an Ann Coulter.
Behaving like a person of good breeding is a foreign concept to the unwashed hordes of Dims out there who will take your treasure, pollute your children's minds, remove God from the public square and our history, and destroy our great country. While it would be nice to have civility in political discourse, I am sorry to report that those days are long since gone - never to return.
One hopes that they don't use real babies to make baby oil. But with those types, can you be sure?
I wouldn't go that far. She is the conservative version of James Carville, only without the political skill.

CAIRO, Egypt The Arabic newspaper Al-Quds al-Arabi said Thursday it had received a claim of responsibility for the Madrid train bombings issued in the name of Al Qaeda.
The five-page e-mail claim, signed by the shadowy Brigade of Abu Hafs al-Masri, was received at the paper's London offices. It said the brigade's "death squad" had penetrated "one of the pillars of the crusade alliance, Spain," and carried out what it called Operation Death Trains.
"This is part of settling old accounts with Spain, the crusader, and America's ally in its war against Islam," the claim said.
Referring to Spain's Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, the statement asked: "Aznar, where is America? Who will protect you, Britain, Japan, Italy and others from us?"
The newspaper faxed the claim to The Associated Press office in Cairo.
The statement warned the United States that a major strike is approaching.
"We announce the good news for the Muslims in the world that the strike of the black wind of death, the expected strike against America, is now at its final stage 90 percent ready and it is coming soon, by God's will," the claim said...

4. Noxious Smell
Muslims are advised to refrain from eating raw onions and garlic - simply as a courtesy to those around them. Nobody likes the smell. The same goes even more so for the reek of cigarettes, which permeates everything around the smoker - hair, clothing, home, car, etc. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: whoever has eaten from such greens as garlic, onions or leek should keep away from our mosque.? Many smokers try to hide the smell by using breath mints or perfume. This does not get rid of the smell, it only masks it. Often the combination of smells is even more nauseating.
