Twitchers watch robin served rare

Birdwatchers from all over Britain who gathered in Grimsby to catch sight of a rare American robin were horrified to see her eaten by a passing sparrowhawk.

The pic is not so clear but that is a squirrel that committed suicide by leaping from the tree in my backyard and impaling himself on our lightning rod. (I've been waiting an appropriate thread to post this...I think this will be as close as I get :)

You know, I can't help but think that if some feeling international institution simply had a talk with this antisocial sparrowhawk, its unacceptable behavior would be modified. Why can't we all just get along.

And, if the sparrowhawks (I hate to stereotype all sparrowhawks) won't change their ways, an international authority should be able to require them to carry some sort of warning signs or equipment that would even the playing field, so to speak.

I think you made the right choice. A rabbit head falling on you from the sky is definitely an omen. (I probably wouldn't have gotten out of the car until I was safe in my garage with the door down, though.)

That's almost as funny as Rush Limbaugh's story about the rehabilitated sea otter that was immediately scarfed up by an orca when it was released.

True story: A couple of years back there was a piece in the San Jose Murky News about an otter in Monterey Bay that was killing other otters, or baby seals, something like that.

Trying to find the article now.

It was such a hoot that I had to e-mail the author, saying, "Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for telling The Story That Must Be Told. A Pulitzer awaits you." Never heard back from him. Snob.
