Two out of probably 30,000 close friends and immediate family members and Reuters claims that "Sept 11 Families Disgusted".
"I would vote for Saddam Hussein before I would vote for Bush."
This quote says it all. It should be followed by "But since Saddam isn't running, I'll vote for the next best candidate, John F'n Kerry."

Families who lost relatives in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks voiced outrage on Thursday at President Bush (news - web sites)'s first ads of his re-election campaign that use images of the devastated World Trade Center to portray him as the right leader for tumultuous times.Shouldnt this say some families. I seriously doubt that ALL families are outraged, as is implied in this statement.
"Families are enraged," said Bill Doyle, 57, of New York, who is active in several Sept. 11 family groups. "What I think is distasteful is that the president is trying to use 9/11 as a springboard for his re-election."
Translation: Im a Democrat and Im pissed that the highlighting of Bushs leadership post-9/11 is going to work well.
"It's entirely wrong. He's had 3,500 deaths on his watch, including Iraq (news - web sites)," said Doyle, whose 25-year-old son Joseph died at the trade center.
Translation: The fact that Id even mention Iraq tells you that my objection is a manifestation of political partisanship, and nothing more principled.
Ron Willett of Walnut Shade, Missouri, said he was disgusted when he saw the ads. Willett, who lost his 29-year-old son, John Charles, when planes hit the trade center, said he is now so upset, "I would vote for Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) before I would vote for Bush."
Um, shouldnt the title of this article be: Democrats Angry That Bush Earned the Right to Highlight His Effective Leadership Post-9/11?
"I think it is an atrocity," his wife, Lucy, added. "He should not be allowed to use those images at all."
Translation: Im an idiot. I get all my news from the Today Show.
With Republicans holding their political convention in New York in late August, victims said they hope Bush does not make it worse by speaking at the site now known as Ground Zero, which many view as sacred.
Probably good advice, but once again, ALL victims?
"If he does, there will be a protest and it could get ugly," said Doyle.
Translation: Im a Baby Boomer protest liberal, and I think these kinds of political demonstrations are effective.
Several family members said their annoyance at Bush's using the emotional images stems in part from his refusal to testify in open session before the federal commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Translation: Were partisans and we want to use the commission as political ammunition against Bush. We like to pretend otherwise, hoping that you cant tell the difference between partisanship and principle.
"There is really a hypocrisy here
.
No kidding. The pot calling the kettle black.
The Bush administration will not cooperate fully with the 9/11 commission and at the same time they are trying to invoke and own 9/11 and use it for his re-election," said Stephen Push from the Washington office of "Families September 11th." His wife died on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon (news - web sites) that day.
Funny. Trying to use 9/11 and your position as head of the Families of September 11 in order to work AGAINST Bushs re-election also qualifies as a political machination. As I said, the pot calling the kettle black.
Alternative paragraph: We liberals are totally unconcerned at worst and unserious at best when it comes to national security post-9/11, but we still think its OK to dictate to others which events are suitable for discussion re:politics, and simultaneously its OK that we repress any invocation of the Bush Administrations clear superiority in regards to security, said Stephen Push. His liberal wife died on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon.

Mr Willett is just a tad biased. Here's a quote about his son's (and I do not wish to speak ill of the dead, but here are the facts) political involvement before his death on 9/11: "Friends have also tried to help prolong those memories. They asked the Taney County Commission last year to place a memorial plaque at the government building where
John Willett served as the state's youngest county treasurer. Gov. Mel Carnahan had appointed him to the post at age 23 in 1996, the year after John received his bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served 18 months before losing an election bid to keep the post as a Democrat in a predominantly Republican county. Last year, the county commission made national news when it turned down the request for a memorial plaque for Willett. During his tenure, the young treasurer had stirred up political wrath by accusing other Republican officials of wrongdoing. One of the commissioners, Ron Herschend, relented after a public outcry - and agreed to pay for the plaque from his pocket."
Mr Willett, Sr, looks to be a disgusting partisan hack.

Sounds more like it is these families that are using their lost loved ones for political gain. It's sick as it gets.
The media is attacking Bush for running positive ads.

Reuters is nuts, and I don't believe for a minute that anyone grieving for a 9/11 victim would make such a stupid comment. We won't defeat the monsters who planned 9/11 by mincing words and avoiding facing what happened. It was horrible, obscene beyond belief, but we have two clear choices in Nov.. Kerry will treat 9/11 and the aftermath as a legal problem. They committed a felony, so we'll arrest them...if the UN says it's okay. This will mean more attacks on US soil, but those are the breaks. We'll hire a hundred thousand more policemen. Bush will hunt down terrorists wherever they are. Period. So far, we've liberated two countries and scared several terrorist states out of their wits. And we're not done yet. The RATs don't want Bush to show any ads depicting reality. Sorry, this won't work. He'll show the aircraft carrier incident, too. Flight suit and all. Kerry can show an ad for botox.

Sept. 11 Families Disgusted by Bush Campaign Ads
They should be disgusted with Clinton for doing nothing before and following the first World Trade Center bombing. But then, how difficult would it be, out of the almost 3000 families represented by folks killed on 9/11 to find some rabid Democrats willing to do this? I'd like to see some campaign ads featuring 9/11 families who support the President for what he's done since then.

I saw one of the President's ads today and liked it - very positive, very upbeat.
I liked best of all the confident refrain "I know what we need to do . . ." That's strikes an excellent chord because, in my view, the most important underlying issue in this campaign will be the President's competence.

Yes, it does show the truth about "all the 9/11 families". Rush was talking about this today .. the fact the media were using 1-2 family members to try to represent that all 3000 families were upset about this.
Brit's panel just hashed it out and even Mara said it wasn't a private issue, and that 9/11 was a national event. Then Fred Barnes brought up the constant comments by Kerry of Vietnam - and said that if Bush cannot mention 9/11 then Kerry cannot mention Vietnam.

Anyone with an AOL account, please vote on the ads in their front-page poll...thus far the "ads are exploitative" side is winning.

would vote for Saddam Hussein before I would vote for Bush I am so disgusted by this comment. I'm sorry she lost someone but a lot of us have family still in harms way concerning the aftermath of 9/11. This mom is sick and tired of listening to 9/11 families for a a peaceful tomorrow. These families are also helping to sponsor a march from Dover to Walter Reid. I guess they aren't happy enough exploiting their own dead but they have to include themselves in speaking out for our military too. Enough is enough!!!

My first reaction to this headline was: "How much money did those relatives make off the deaths of 9/11 victims?" None, and they are furious? Or millions and want more?

Personally, I am disgusted by the Families of the 9/11 dead and injured. Their Victimhood has become unbearable and embarrassing. Their money chasing has become obscene and their attempt to be a "force" in politics is revolting. I find them to be insulting to the rest of the country. It is not just they that were attacked! It is not even THEY that died! It is their relatives. Relatives pass away all the time, abeit not from terrorist attack, and the survivors get to move on with life. Some relatives even die unexpectedly, horribly, in accidents, painfully and from prolonged disease. The Military have deaths and mutilations to their ranks and don't even get a Thankyouverymuch from these myopic self absorbed glorified
victims of, of all people, President G.W. Bush. Shamefull!
