"On March 4, 1985, Monroe Counto Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs Inspector Mike Young released the results of his criminal investigation. The report concluded that Fortune had consensual (???????) sex with a 17-year-old high school student (boy) on as many as four occasions. On one occasion, Fortune and the boy reportedly spent the weekend together.
The yourg man had been a participant in the Sheriff's Cadet program.
The next day, Undersheriff Lawrence Meggs sent a memo to Fortune: "It has become apparent that you do do not meet the standards of efficiency, morale and reputation required .... for the responsible position of Deputy Sheriff with this department.
Fortune's letter of resignation was short and to the point: " I hereby submit my resignation effective March 5, 1985."
We broke this story in June 2000. the "secret" had been rumored around the Police Department for months, but it had been difficult to investigate.
Sources inside the KWPD speculated that Fortune had been promoted to captain because Avael "had something on him" and could therefore control him." KWTN 1.23.04

The argument was offered that we should worry more about Iranian nukes instead of "trying to moralize" or words to that effect.
The argument came in the form of the trite political cartoon of Bush standing on a giant nuke and railing against a homosexual-couple.
I would submit that this news story is the natural consequence of ignoring moral conduct and denying that sexuality has a moral component.
