I see. Thanks for that.

Well, I guess all we can hope for now is that the conference committee removes the amendments and reports back a clean version to both the House and Senate. ...or a cleaner version (w/o the AWB extension), at least.

Frankly, I'd rather have my old bolt-action deer rifle and stand off a couple hundred yards.

Don't worry, once the AWB is renewed, they'll be after "sniper rifles" next.

It's about time you realize that those "single" issues have added up and have become the direction where Bush is leading the country.

I do not see it that way.

CFR was going to be passed regardless. As is some sort of AWB.

A president cannot take on every frickin public issue that there is. He has to pick his battles.

Bush has thus far taken on more than any president in recent memory. Clinton left the country in such a mess.

There is no way he can do it all in four years, eight years.................

He is not in bed with these issues, he is simply not taking them on in a head on fashion right now. I believe that he sees more important fish to fry. I agree with that.

That is how I see it.

It is a spawn of the original Bush gun ban...Bush I in 1989 started the boulder rolling downhill, then Clinton/Feinstein gave the boulder a big push in 1994. I imagine W is hesitant to do anything that admits Bush Sr was wrong to start kicking rocks.

... the opportunity to have a Firarms Liability Protection Bill in the first place.

Opportunity did not mature into fruit, on this one. Too bad. I think that the firearms industry will survive, and the direction of court decisions is to dismiss frivolous lawsuits anyway (i.e., legislation is superfluous to some degree). Better the act die, than have an extension of the AWB. Lots of Senators will be able to use the history of this bill to buffalo voters in their favor.

Because to remain a free people, we need rifles with the same military features that our military has. This is so basic...it's frustrating to even have to explain this to you. This is not about deer rifles or hunting. This is about freedom, and about having the means to overhaul the system if it becomes oppressive to the citizens.

Good grief! (I will order my new chain gun tomorrow)

If bush has to pick his battles, I'd hope defending the constitution would be at least one of them. So far he has show it's not.

Let me ask you then: what important "fish did he fry" with all the political capital he built up from the war on terror? So far he has severely weakened the First Amendment (CFR), the Fourth (Patriot Act); the Tenth (education bill, farm bill, and every other social spending bill); Equal Protection (amicus brief in U. of Michigan) and has promised to support legislation weakening the Second (AWB).

What he cut taxes? Whoopie.

No, he has the political issue and the responsibility of "homeland security" hanging over his head.

Is the GOP and the WH really that stupid?

After watching the GOP in action (inaction) since taking over in '94, I have to think you meant that as a rhetorical question.

Folks like yourself are to the GOP what the Clintonistas were to the Democrats; just an ugly stain. You're an amen corner that deems it politically sophisticated to elevate your lack of principle into your highest principle. To whatever extent your type gains sway over the GOP, the Republican Party will simply become an inverse reflection of the unscrupulous Democrats.

Well stated.

"Good grief! (I will order my new chain gun tomorrow)"

Good. And make sure to order plenty of ammunition. And don't forget to pay your $200 transfer tax for exercising your "right" to bear arms, or you'll be sent to federal prison for up to ten years and fined ten thousand dollars.

Something just crossed my mind that made me chuckle. The radio news was reporting Senate action that amounted to extending the AWB. Heheheh. A bit premature. The Senate did not pass any bill. None, nada. I wonder if that will make the news, eh? Nope, no bias there, none at all. Just objective reporting.

You can't, because people don't care about CFR, and you know that truth, but yet you wish to ignore reality and criticize people who acknowledge that reality and put yourself on an empty throne called "the most principled of all".

If people don't care about CFR, why didn't Bush veto it? You told me just a week ago that there would've been a serious backlash had he vetoed the bill.

Can't have it both ways, Dane.

"Don't forget the Bonus Army..."

Which was by design unarmed. Not so a bunch of ex GI's in Athens Tennesse, shortly after WW-II. They were armed, and they did prevail. Sure not against the federal government, but against the corrupt local political machine. They even used high explosives. The Governor was afraid to send in the National Guard, for fear they'd side with the ex GI's. The federales were out of the picture entirely.

Okay, so let me get this straight: The Ruger mini-14 is NOT covered by the AWB? Does anyone know if the after-market plastic and fiber-glass stocks and clips are covered? If so, it would seem this would simply hurt Colt, Bushmaster et al that manufacture AR-15 variants as people move to the mini-14 and buy the pistol-grip stocks and extended clips separately. With the gun, scope, clips and some accessories I paid less than half of what I'd of paid for an AR-15.
