You said: "Let's save the vivitrol for when there is a need for it.
If you could do that, it would be really great. Thanks."
You posted this, "Oh here we go, a Patriot Act nut who thinks the govt. is setting up video cameras in his bedroom." and you're telling Spotty to save the vitriol??
Give me a break. Isn't your exhortation to save the vitriol rather like the pot calling the kettle black?

Hah! For me this was about the only reason I had left to cast my vote 'against' Kerry. Maybe more votes will be made signing this AWB, then the votes that will be lost? Maybe this is what Karl Rove believes.

If this thing passes, I am done with ALL Republicans. For life. Well, you've already guaranteed that it will pass, so the time for you to leave is now. You won't be missed.
The rest of us are gonna stick around and watch the AWB expire.

It does not appear you will back Bush mindlessly if he lets this happen. I am startled by your response. I am pleasantly startled See reply #275. I look at the big picture and not automatically go fatalistic, giving the political adversary the advantage.

There is nothing "moderate" about voting against the Constitution, unless of course the item being voted on is a Constitutional amendment. That's way it's supposed to work. The way it seems to work, is that nobody pays attention to the old rag, unless it can be twisted to further their agenda, regardless of what the words of the Constitution actually say and meant when passed. No argument from me. I was commenting on the cynicism of those Senators, like the ones in Maine, who feel they need to embrace lib positions to keep being elected, as opposed to trying to educate their voters.

Interesting, the Nebraska delegation split, with the Republican Hagel voting for the gun show ban, and the Democrat Nelson voting against it. Curious.

Very disappointing... and from our own guys. Gun owners tend to be singular issue folks and they remember who sold them out. I pray GWB grows a spine or that Tom Tancredo gets elected President of the USA.

I understand. The difficulty is in the definition. How about this one: "Any selective-fire firearm capable of fully automatic, semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user."

FOCUS PEOPLE:
Never give up
First this still has to get to committee. Second BUSH IS ON RECORD asking for a clean bill. THIS CAN BE USED!!!
Write the
http://www.whitehouse.gov and tell them to get the president to REPEAT THE CALL FOR A CLEAN BILL. This will help push for a clean bill out of committee.
We too one right now, this does not mean we are beaten. It also yielded some excellent points with kerry saying you have no rights to guns! We need to capture that video off of c-span for the FR home made commercials.
So in summation our attack should be to 1. contact whitehouse and get them to repeat what they said. (this includes the press secretary) 2. contact the reps and senators and committees.
This does also show one other thing. We are three senators short. With more republicans this would not have been an issue. Self destruct all you want, but the bashers KNOW with the democrats this will be 1000% worse and no hope of stripping the amendments.
To: wirestripper
Aim your weapon and take a clean shot, but make damn sure you hit the real enemy. If Republicans let this pass, then they -- like Democrats already are -- become my enemy.
This is not up for discussion, BTW. This is just a statement of fact about my reaction to these events.
If this passes, it is because Republicans wanted it to. And at that point, I will have no need to have any future dealings with Republicans whatsoever.

Bush could publically support a Constitutional Amendment repealing the entire bill of rights and you'd call it a "political nuance".
To: Hat-Trick
Just curious, and sincere, where do you think the line in the sand should be drawn, and what do you plan on having to arm yourself with as you stand immediately behind it? Wise generals almost never draw 'a line in the sand', unless they are facing total destruction or have total superiority. Battles are fought, wars are fluid, and almost every great general has had to retreat at times. The object is to win the war, not obliterate your ability to do so over a single battle, except in rare instances. Sorry, but IMHO the AWB is not the end of the world. Disgusting, but not anywhere close to confiscation, and not stopping the expansion of conceal carry(which is perhaps the best measure for defeating gun control.)
To: Dane
"I will still vote and support him, because the demos are worse and there is a war on terror going on. "
And it's this kind of blind following the reps are counting on, so they can jab that knife in our backs a little harder knowing we'll still vote for them.
I for one, will cease to vote republican again if this passes though.

I was obviously under the mistaken impresstion that the fine people of Indiana had sent a true conservative to represent them in the Senate. My bad.

I suggest we get started by contacting the whitehouse and getting them to repeat their push for a clean bill.
This can also be done by contacting the press secretary and getting him to repeat the president's desire for the clean bill.
Who is on the conference committee?
Be pissed, but don't surrender. Surrending is for the French.
