Clinton once stated that we should be so concerned with protecting individual Rights. From your comments, you apparently agree.

Now, tell me people don't care. By the time people DO realize what CFR really means, they will be powerless to speak out against it. You can take my guns, but still I'll fight. But when you take my voice, you've silenced me forever.

Dane's focus on CFR is a disservice to this thread. I know you have a different mindset than he. Can I possibly suggest....don't feed the trolls....

"While you battle over the scrap's, the rats will take the entire carcass."

So if we just surrender our rights a little at a time it's okay?

No. From my cold dead hands. Empty.

10 RINOS is nearly 20% of Republicans in the Senate.

That's the first cogent thing you've said! I was guessing before seeing the roll call. We'll call it 80% in the Senate, at least 90% in the House. Still the vast majority, and some want to throw the baby out with the bath water, punish the good for the sins of the wicked.

Tom Delay and Karl Rove have both said the AWB is dead. You're free to be paranoid, and by all means continue to pressure your representatives, but it just ain't gonna pass.

Hell, if GWB signs an extension I wouldn't waste my vote on a Libertarian. I'll campaign and vote for JF"nK and Hitlery.
I watched the vote on C-span2 an am now more than ever sure that there isn't a cup of spits difference between dems and repubs. They are all the same, once in D.C. So I hold my nose and pull the lever for Kerry. Let's get this second revolution started while I can still squeeze a trigger, and remember why.

I suspect, when it is signed, you'll be mouthin' off about how we need to support Bush anyways

I'll see what happens in the conferance committee, where gun rights is an issue that can determine elections.

And since gun rights is an important issue in many house districts, I suspect that the AWB ban will lapse.

Unlike CFR in which there are not 80 million people who make that an important issue.

You know, Chris, as much as I'd like to believe you'll make a fast $20.00 on this, we've been lied to by our own party before, frequently, and recently. It's not like I can really trust Bush or Delay either one to do the right thing. I just hope you are correct, else it looks like the only way to prevent our grandchildren from inheriting a life of slavery will be Civil War 2. For now I'll remain skeptical. If you end up being right, I'll be the first to publicly say you told me so. Regards,

Hat-Trick

Sadly, "assault weapons" are disliked by a heckuva lot of Republican voters, right or wrong. This ain't as simple as it seems.

Yeah it is. We are talking simple semi auto rifles. It's simply an incremental attack on our freedom.

These principled stands over bits and pieces of the proverbial pie are going to cause the eventual and problematic loss of the entire pie.

WS, the loss of the Second Amendment is guaranteed "to cause the eventual and problematic loss of the entire pie." Check out any history book on the matter.

This is no "bit" or "piece". The "bit" was losing ten years of freedom. If it doesn't sunset, then it is permanent. We dealt with it for ten years. We WILL NOT stand idly by for eternity.

By the way. This is not just about Bush. If this thing passes, I am done with ALL Republicans.

For life.

Saint George Tucker (1752-1828)

The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.

Home defense, naturally. If I wanted to go fowling, I'd do it with a much nicer, probably breech-loading, piece. Over-under, nice chasing, the works.

Enough soccer mom votes to offset the RKBA voters, who may well not have voted for him in 2000

We RKBA folks not only voted for him in 2000, we donated, and worked to get out the vote. (We assumed he was a cynical politician on his weakly stated support for the AWB, and didn't mean it.)

Now, he can do without our votes unless he upholds his oath.

How old are you, Johnny? An approximate age will suffice.

I'm sorry, did you say you're backing off your prediction?

Try "sounding-out" the words. It helps when you are first learning to read.
