Some personal thoughts at the end of Black History Month
CSPAN | 2/29/04 | Jeffrey Clark

Posted on 02/29/2004 5:33:33 AM PST by Warrior Nurse

Yesterday while purusing through the televison channels I came across a program on CSPAN called Focusing on the Black Family which was hosted by Tavis Smiley. I was curious to see what this was going to be about since it had some of the most notable black intellectuals that were particpants. Obviously I knew that most of these people on the panel were going to be black liberals but I wanted to watch to see if they would really address what is really wrong in the black community. Some did like Marva Collins a giant in the education of black children. The graduates from her school have been accepted into the bests schools in this country, not because of skin color but because of academic excellence.

What disturbed me the most was the Bush bashing that occured from time to time by different panel members. This gathering was conducted in Miami near for the liberal ground zero of election 2000. Julia Hare a motivational speaker took her swipe at the President by blaming him for all the ills and plight of black Americans. Shelia Jackson Lee was there and since she is a member of congress she got in her shots. The most disturbing was Dr Eric Michael Dyson from the University of Pennsylvania. This man has several Ph.D's and has the sense of a grapefruit. Here is a man that has pulled himself out of the most dire circumstances though hard work and determination, published many books and is hailed in academia as a great thinker. This man goes and talks about how white supremacy is still keeping black people down. He even blasted his own employer the University of Pennsylvania. Someone should tell the good doctor to wake up stop hanging with the Gangsta Rappers and step into the real world. This learned man condemmed the system by which he himself has gained success. He also said that the White House was full of anti-intellectuals and the President was dumb. Well now that is typical liberal speak and we know that Dr. Rice is a member of MENSA and the President along with the Sec of State have their respective MBA's.

Anti-intellecutal?! Hardly, what I saw was the practice of Intellectual Apartheid amongst these thinkers. There was not one notable black conservative on the panel. For all the talk about equality there was no chance for equality of thought no intellectual diversity. All of these successful people have gotten to where they are by espousing conservative princples of hard work, education and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. This is what Booker T Washington and Frederick Douglas espoused for the race. All I was looking for was some truth which came out at times. Perhaps the island of hope in that entire morass was Dr Ben Carson the noted Pediatric Neurosurgeon. He said that the Jews both conservative and liberal can argue an issue be diametricly opposed but they will come together in areas that have a direct impact upon their communities.

How profound!

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

The single most important thing that blacks could do to improve their condition is to assimilate into our society. Learn the language, get an education and form families (father included).

Enough of "whitey is bad". That isn't going to work.

I am very sick of the whiners complaining about how Black History Month is the shortest month of the year.

In our schools, January is devoted to the worship of Martin Luther King. February is Black History Month. April is another month devoted to King worship. And December is most notable (according to the media) for Kwanzaa.

Cottotn Comes to Harlem (1970) was on cable very late last night. My wife had never seen it. After watching it she said, "Nothing's changed in over 30 years. African-Americans are still ill treated by their so-called leaders." Calvin Lockhart did Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson before they were doing themselves. Moderately funny comedy but a great social satire and a look into the future.

Where was the real Black Intelligencia? By that I mean the wonder men and women who are solidly in the middle class? These are the only black Americans that matter any more.

Wait two more generation and all the other black citizen will be a footnote to modern times. They will have aborted themselves out of existence or followed their "leaders" like lemmings into the sea of irrelevantcy.

Black history throughout the world is nothing anyone should be proud of.

There are admirable people of all races in our history.

I would say that all conservatives can be proud of Shelby Steele, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, and Congressman Watts to name just a few. In fact, Sowell is probably the leading conservative thinker alive today since the passing of Kirk.

Is Black History Month aboused by leftists? Sure, but what isn't.

They are already aborting themselves out of existence. 13 million abortions performed on black women since 1973. Margaret Sanger would be proud. The white man isn't killing us we are doing it to ourselves.

By the way they did talk about all the black men in prison but not one peep about the black on black crime that got them there. Of the 800,000 men that are in prison most are there b/c of black on black crime or black on white crime. On that issue they all were quieter than a hooker in church!

to assimilate into our society

Huh? Sorry but they are part of our society. The key is to get all Americans to assimilate into a civil and responsible society.

In elementary schools in Houston (HISD), this month -- February -- they held assemblies and programs, devoted to the worship of Martin Luther King -- and children were told that there are 4: MLK, MLK the 2nd, MLK the 3rd, and MLK the 4th?

I guess the libs are setting up a dynasty of MLK worship.

I, also, ran accross that C-Span show [?].

After seeing that I went into the den and cleaned my armor.

They're going to hold their "conventions" in black colleges so "racist whitey" doesn't get the money?

Very telling.

I observerd none there that were friends of "these United States".

Someone asked me not too long ago, why there wasn't an Italian-American History Month. I told him that all he needed to do was sound out the noun AMERICA, and there his answer would be.

Honestly, I don't know of any Italian who would have been happy to have been spotted 20 points, based on their Italian-ness, so they could get into Harvard or Yale or any other big or little Ivy school.

It would have been considered a tremendous insult. Pride, -not the kind that 'precedeth a fall', but the deeply rooted kind that knows what is bestowed must be merited- is in very short supply in the communities that grab fast that 20-point spot.

Huh? All people have something to be proud off. Why denigrate black history just to justify your unhappiness about black history month? I personally think black history month is not much more than liberal feel good, make whitey feel guilty nonsense, but your tone sounds awfully idiotic.

The sad thing is that by parroting the RAT line come what may, black individuals are given the wrong message. They're victims who can't ever make it through their own efforts. It's horribly racist and evil, pegs blacks and other people of color as dumbbells, who need to be told what to do and when to do it by RAT demagogs interested only in lining their own pockets and hanging onto power. Worst of all, it further divides our society that should be color blind.
