Bush Rally Broken-up at Connecticut College

New London, CT (February 21, 2004) - A rally by College Republicans from Connecticut College in New London, CT was broken up Friday night by Campus Safety officers, who told them they had no permit. The students were rallying peacefully in front of the Olin Science Center, near the main entrance to the school. The students were showing their support for President Bush, and encouraging others to be excited about and supportive of the President.

"No one has ever needed a permit before," said Bob French, a junior from New Hampshire and the Executive Director of the state-level College Republicans.

According to the two Campus Safety officers who broke up the event, they had instructions from their superiors at the Office of Student Life to make sure it was disbanded. The Office of Student Life was ostensibly concerned that College Republicans were protesting an event held by a rival group inside Olin that evening.

However, another Campus Safety officer drove by earlier and gave the students a 'thumbs-up' when he saw the signs for President Bush, according to E. Bion Piepmeier, chairman of the Connecticut College Republicans.

After being disbursed, the College Republicans walked to the Student Life to ask why they were not allowed to rally, and to determine what could be done about it. The Student Life office was apparently empty.

Nearly twenty students of all class years came out for the event, which lasted from 6:55 PM until approximately 7:25 PM in frigid temperatures. The students were waving official 'Bush Cheney 04' signs and also homemade signs. No arrests were made.

It may be getting close to the time folks. Our elected government officials sick the dogs on the public and violate the law with impunity.
Maybe it is time for some citizen arrest's. This is the first step in the direction of overthrowing the government and they await to see how much the public will take. The Democrats are very close to overthrowing our government.
The matter is getting more serious with each passing day.

You guys cannot skip the basics like getting permits for your demonstrations. Getting permits is not difficult and it will not encourage problems.

Yoni, Why don't you see if you can get into a session at the Leadership Institute?

As long as you live, you will never regret any training that you get from the institute.

FReepers do not encourage civil disobedience. There is always a way to protest within the boundaries of the law.

No, it's time to tell campus security, "Wanna make me leave?"

A few years back at a local college, the campus leftists held a symposium to discuss how to protest against a planned campus speech by Charlton Heston. A bunch of us pro-2nd-Amendment got the word and decided to attend, arriving in ones and twos to not draw attention.

There were about 2-300 in attendence in the auditorium, with 3 campus rent-a-cops in the back. During the audience-discussion phase, a few of us got the mike, but were cut off. Finally, one of us got the mike and refused to be cut off. The rent-a-cops started forward to eject him. He then yelled "Will the defenders of the 2nd Amendment stand up and be counted?!"

The leftists saw a hundred of us standing -- a full third of the room. The rent-a-cops went back to their donuts. The meeting went downhill for them from there.

There was some silent protest from them outside the auditorium during Heston's speech, but they had gotten the message: when a thousand gun owners show up to hear somebody, DO NOT piss them off

Sounds to me like your civil rights and 1st Amendment rights were violated. Time to get a poli-sci major to file a complaint with the state authorities as their class project.

You've got the right idea.

In Eugene, Oregon, the "conservation" mafia and anarchists (the children in black) get all the free legal help they need from the University of Oregon law school.

OK. A little background is I think in order (although I wish the pro-busher's hadn't been broken up too).

A few years ago, there was a hostile takeover of Conn College's Administrative building. As a result of that, demonstrations and rallies are considered unnacceptable by the administration when taking place in front of academic buildings. I think it's bullshit too, but that's the rule. It's not a "Oh, you're revoking my 1st Amendment!" issue. It's a "They don't allow it in front of academic buildings" issue.

And yes, of course CCLeft registered the room we showed the movie in.
