Howard Stern suspended from Clear Channel stations
Forbes ^ | 2-25-04

Posted on 02/25/2004 4:37:39 PM PST by Indy Pendance

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shock jock Howard Stern's show was yanked Wednesday from Clear Channel Communications Inc. radio stations after an incident on his show Tuesday, the first casualty of its zero tolerance policy on indecency.

"It was vulgar, offensive and insulting, not just to women and African Americans but to anyone with a sense of common decency," Clear Channel Radio Chief Executive John Hogan said in a statement.

"We will not air Howard Stern on Clear Channel stations until we are assured that his show will conform to acceptable standards of responsible broadcasting," he said.

Clear Channel has about 1,200 stations in the United States though it was not immediately clear how many aired his show.

Stern's show is syndicated by a unit of Viacom Inc.

"It was vulgar, offensive and insulting, not just to women and African Americans but to anyone with a sense of common decency," Clear Channel Radio Chief Executive John Hogan said in a statement.

In the words of Nelson, "Ha ha." Looks as though Stuttering John Melencez made the right career move.

So that means the better content radio will migrate to satellite and the airwaves just like the better shows are on pay cable.

He went downhill right around the time that he split from his wife.

Yup his relationship with his wife was a very big element of the shows success IMO....and then Jackie left and he became just a very wealthy and pathetic anal sex obsessed/sadist.

When he started talking about dinners at Nobu with his plastic enhanced trophy...I bailed.

I do miss Robin's news.

Howard was talking about the first breast he saw as a kid. He said it was a black woman in National Geographic with plates in her lips and rings around her neck.

I've heard himn tell that story at least a dozen times.

And when the $$$ begins to slack off, then he's out, just like any other hired hand in the entertainment industry.

All he has is a contract - and contracts can be broken at Management's whim, with the wave of a lawyer's hand.

If the quote in #48 is true, he should have been sanctioned. If true, this isn't a PC issue, he crossed a line.

Good riddance. Thanks to Janet Jackson's boob we are turning the tide of filth back on the perpetrators.

Oh lighten up. Stern is harmless fun.

The action comes after CC executives reviewed comment made on Stern's Tuesday broadcast, including on on-air caller's comments: 'Ever bang a famous n***** (stars added) chick? What do they smell like? Watermelons?'...

Well, I gotta admit that's far worse. But if Stern's getting the Pig Virus delay treatment now, how did that get out on the air in the first place?

Anyone around here got Usenet access where they can download the MP3 of today's show and make it available via web link or FTP?

He's even worse than Bubba the Love Sponge. I can't tolerate HS. His show on E-Entertainment is the bottom of the barrel. He's the most sexist creep in America. He's as creepy as Michael Moore but MM is creepier in a different sense. Now, I've made myself sick. Gotta go.

and somehow ended up in an audio anal sex scene. What a curve ball!

"Curveball"?...how so?...Howard's been anal sex obsessed for years and years. Hopefully Beth the model is taking care of that for him, and I'd guess she is as last time I saw Ralph his posture was better.

How long will it take Pres. Hillary to declare "badmouthing Democrats" to be in violation of "common decency" ?

Exactly.

His show is funny and entertaining...

You really have to be devoid of any real intelligence to find the crap that he puts out funny and entertaining. I know it's a matter of opinion; that's mine.

So who's next? Savage?

Why not? Monopolistic censorship is a threat to a free society. Today they find Stern offensive. Tomorrow perhaps Savage. The next day perhaps Rush. This is disgraceful and should be fought by all Conservatives.

Porn needs to go back underground. It doesn't belong in the mainstream. But, then, there was a time not too long ago, when people just knew that.
