Yes, I have heard rumors about all kinds of abuses as well. But I have only dealt personally with two instances of SSI disability awards. This one, clearly justified. Another, definitely less severe but still what you would call disabled. Her award was terminated when she demonstrated she she could hold a minimum wage job. Not reduced, but terminated! And her father is a SS employee! That action seemed kind of abrupt to me.

The big problem with abuses, both ways...getting it when you shouldn't and NOT getting it when you should is that no one in the SSA or our legislators have to survive under the same health/retirement system as the rest of us. Judged by our peers? I think not.
