Sgt. Jack Boggs of the 88th RRC (in DCU), and Sgt. Gary Boggs of the Ohio National Guard (in BDU) toss up an honorary jump ball prior to the Kent State/Bowling Green men's basketball game held Saturday at Kent State. The game was dedicated to soldiers and their families. Both soldiers, who aren't sure if they are related, were presented with game balls signed by the Kent State team. Jeff Glidden
Kent State pays Tribute to Freedom
By Bill Geddes
KENT, Ohio (Army News Service, Feb. 24, 2004) When the Kent State University mens basketball team scored an 80-72 victory against rival Bowling Green, the fans cheered as much for a large contingent of special guests as for their victorious Golden Flashes.
A near-sellout crowd of more than 6,000 gave a standing ovation to more than 200 family members of deployed Soldiers from the Army Reserve, National Guard and active component as they entered the arena under an Operation Tribute to Freedom banner. The family members surrounded a garrison flag carried by Soldiers, who followed color guards from the Army Reserves 88th Regional Readiness Command and the Ohio National Guard onto the floor.
The 338th U.S. Army Band, an Army Reserve band out of Columbus, Ohio, joined the Kent State band in playing the National Anthem, as well as the Army song at halftime. Brig. Gen. Michael W. Beasley, commander of the 88th RRC, spoke during the halftime show and thanked Kent State for recognizing family members He also noted that the Operation Tribute to Freedom event honored all service members and their families.
The crowds loudest ovation went to two Purple Heart recipients from Ohio, Sgt. Jack Boggs of the 88th RRC, and Sgt. Gary Boggs of the Ohio National Guard, who believe they may be related. Together, they tossed up an honorary jump ball prior to the game. They were each presented with game balls signed by the Kent State team.
The rest of the story

Tomkow...it's minOr49er. Not miner49er. It's an O, not an E.
To: Kathy in Alaska
Thank you Kathy! My schedule doesn't allow me to hang in the 'teen much, but I am honored to receive a welcome from the highly reknowned canteen goddess, Kathy in Alaska! You all do such a good thing for the troops. Never lose sight of the fact that you are always planting seeds, and that there are people whom you will never meet who will one day be contributors to the Conservative cause as a result of what you all do here!
Now, since this is the Celtic women warrior thread, I'm off to find my dirk for protection and also throw on my sporran for that extra protection! With a nod to Burns... "Hell ha'e nai furie like onie gillie spurnt!"
