It is a long post....but a worthy one. We have our own well and if the power goes...so does our water. Therefore, we have a generator and stored gas, as well. Here in South Dakota, we have often lost power because of blizzards taking down the power lines. When that happens, we can't make the 20 mile trip to town, either. So, we stay prepared....all the time.

Born and bread just outside of Newark, NJ.

I thought I had seen it all.

During hubby's residency years, we volunteered for Rural Track Medicine. We crash landed in several very rural places up and down the East Coast.

Living in the RURAL Country was an eye opened for how UNself reliant I was. Took me weeks just to learn why the garbage didn't 'go away'.

That was one of the first reasons we learned why Country People had pick up trucks.

Hauling garbage to the dump in a sports car with sun roof just was no too classy :))

One thing to add in the prepared list is to keep your car's gas tank at least 1/2 full at all times. Forgot about that one until last night.
