[history]
February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

I had the same impression, Velveeta. Imagine how difficult it must be to KNOW what the threats are, to have foiled a number of them, and yet to be aware of the likelihood that some threats will succeed. In the same speech he makes the case for preemptive war (against known threats). I imagine Pres. Bush must have similar concerns.
When Cheney, Blair, Ridge etc. say we will be hit by WMD, I take them very seriously.

Someone found that the founder is an ex-Clinton volunteer.
It is sad to see, but I think THEY are the ones who are using the deaths of their loved ones for political purposes.
Their mission statement says they are seeking "peaceful solutions to terrorism" and have a link to Moveon.org.

Here is an interesting story which gives a glimpse into intel gathering:
I was a CIA agent, says terrorist's son
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1091709/posts The Canadian, who was captured in Afghanistan, gave away Al-Qaeda hideouts and did undercover work
TORONTO - The son of an Al-Qaeda terrorist who was recruited to work for the United States has given a rare insight into the world of terrorist-hunting.
Mr Abdurahman Khadr, whose father was an Egyptian-born Canadian citizen, began working for the CIA after his capture in Afghanistan.

Guests at Las Vegas hotel stricken
By Associated Press
(Honolulu-AP) -- More than 100 guests of a Las Vegas hotel popular with Hawaii residents have stricken with a virus in the last three months.
A spokesman for Boyd Gaming Corporation, owner of the hotel, said many of the guests affected were from Hawaii.
Spokesman Rob Stillwell says the hotel was given a clean bill of health yesterday by Clark County health District officials. He says the source of the Norwalk virus was neither the hotel nor the charter airplane that carried the guests to Las Vegas.
While the source of the virus remains unknown, Stillwell said the hotel is still taking extra precautions and having employees clean up more often.

We've had blowing snow most of the day and my satellite has needed snow removal every 5 minutes or so. The talking heads on Fox claim the parties in Iraq are nowhere near civil war. Not my take on things, but then again nothing is adding up with what is going on there. Both CNN and Fox were the Martha Stewart channels most of the day. We are severely news challenged other than what we learn on the internet. Every day I appreciate Cindy for posting links more and more!

I did Google searches on many of the statements in this speech and suggest that everyone do the same. You will be surprised at the links that are there, many of them will be anti-America, but there is much on nuclear and other warnings. (message #2714)
Google search for:
the threat we face is
where are terrorists hiding
where will the next terrorist attack be
the threat we face is not conventional
"mortal danger" terrorism warning
the threat we is
I haven't done the following as yet:
bin ladin called a duty to obtain nuclear weapons
global terror
global terror groups
new type of war
fighting terrorism relying on intelligence
anti terror action
Google has to be the most fantastic tool on the Internet.

I was channel surfing this AM and saw this group being interviewed by Katie Couric. After gagging, I switched stations quickly.
