February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

Great posts as always. As far as: I don't know how bad things are going to have to get before Joe Sixpack realizes this, but it might have to be a literal invasion.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid Joe Sixpack is too fat drunk and stupid to realize that invasions can be fought quite well and countries can be brought down without weapons, as you and I and everyone here already knows. The prospects aren't bright.

Race is not the problem. Culture is the problem. I'm all for people of any race legally immigrating to the US, but damn it, they need to assimilate into our culture,

James Earl Jones once used this very line to rebut a racial argument from Whoopie about African roots etc, when she had her TV show. He rendered her speechless as you can imagine.

"The threat we face is not conventional

since words mean things, I'd say we need to take Tony Blair at his word. He knows a lot more about what is happening behind the scenes than we do. He wouldn't have said it if he didn't believe it.
You can't get much clearer than this. Do they have "40 nukes in the US?" I don't know. Do they have Nuke detonation devices? Absolutely. Can they get them here and will they use them? Absolutely. It's WHEN not IF.

The threat and the attack are multi-faceted. They will use IMO attacks of every kind simultaneously...NBC and conventional to cause confusion..but the NBC WILL happen sooner or later.

To me anyone who plans harm to my country is a terrorist.

True and since we have so many who plan us harm, anyone who says we are not at WAR, are ostriches with their head in the sand. We must remain forever vigilant.

Did you all hear that Tom Ridge is in the hospital ICU. He has gallstones and pancreatitis which after he's stabilized he will have to have surgery. He will be there for several days.

My dog "Coco" died of pancreatitis and it can be very painful. Gallstones I know personally are very painful!!

Jim Bohannon threw a woman off his radio program last night,
she insisted that President Bush was evil, for going to war and felt that it could have been handled "in better ways", but could not tell Jim what "better" was.

I suspect that Jim borders on liberal, but he takes no guff when it comes to fighting for this country and can make good sense at times.

I don't think there is a country in the world, that does not have an active group that means us harm.

We are at war and the world is at war.

I sit here preaching and am not strong enough to do much in order to help, had to give up calling the talk shows several years ago, too much stress on the blood pressure.

O.K. JustPiper you piqued my curiosity and I did a "little" research on rabies. I also searched for bioterror and rabies, and Islam and their view of dogs.

The article regarding Rabies being the biggest killer of people in China was very surprising. I have included cases of rabies in Africa and the Phillipines, because the track of problems associated with terrorists seems to always present itself in other countries as well as our own. I have only listed a brief listing of the entirety that I found regarding rabies cases around the country.

Muhammad and Dogs - . Muhammad Made Them Akin to Evil Creatures

We see that Muhammad had irrational - superstitious beliefs concerning dogs. Beliefs that make no sense going against modern medicine and science, logic, and practical experience. Here is a quick account of the five points brought up:

1)Muhammad wanted all dogs to be killed, but he allowed dogs to live that served useful, physical purposes to their owners. But, regardless, all black dogs were to be killed because they were a "Satan".

2)Money made from the sale of "non-useful" dogs was a dirty as a prostitute's money.

3)God takes away reward in heaven for Muslims who own dogs as pets.

4)If a dog passes in front of a group of praying people, their prayers are null and void.

5)Angels will not enter a house if it contains a dog, (or a picture of a living creature).

One of the interesting things I heard about this issue, from an Arab man was that the Druze in Lebanon have a tradition that says that when Muhammad was a child, he was bitten by a watchdog - because the dog had caught Muhammad stealing eggs!

This may or may not be true, but it would help to explain Muhammad's attitude toward dogs. Unfortunately, his absurd beliefs about dogs are now part of Islamic "dogma" (no pun intended).

Muhammad had superstitious beliefs about dogs and how they fit into God's world. Muhammad made them akin to evil creatures. This irrationality is now fundamental to Islam. To this day Muslims harass other Muslims who own dogs as pets.

Jesus never taught this type of superstition. Christ's teachings were based upon faith, love, and obedience to God. When Christ taught prayer, He taught that God judges the heart, not the form or outward appearance. When Christ taught about heaven, and it's rewards, He did not state that owning an animal would cost you your good works. Christ's message was simple: love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. There were no bizarre legalistic ties put upon that message. Relationship with God consists in purity of heart, not purity of form and external appearance.

http://answering-islam.org.uk/Silas/dogs.htm

It is of course unfashionable to criticize Islam. Still one can't help noting that a culture that hates and mistreats dogs isn't likely to find much common ground with Americans and other Westerners who love and treat dogs as family members. Indeed, part of Islam's contempt for dogs is rooted in the view that canine pets are a manifestation of Western moral corruption.

Human Rabies Cases Increase in China - #1 Killer Disease

Human rabies cases in China increased nearly 63% during the first 9 months of 2003: killing 1297 people up to the end of September, 2003 - a number which exceeds the 2002 total of 1003 deaths.

Rabies is now the number one killer disease in China: exceeding the death rates of SARS and AIDS.

The China Center for Disease Control and Prevention blames the increased number of deaths on the "mad desire" of citizens to own pets, and the low vaccination rate of these pets. The presence of stray dogs, running wild in suburban and rural areas was also blamed.

While officials are now blaming careless pet owners (pet ownership is still considered a symbol of bourgeois decadence), China has uniform compulsory vaccination laws that are rigidly enforced. If a dog owner cannot produce a certificate of vaccination, the pet is often killed on the spot.

Dogs raised and sold for meat -a highly profitable State enterprise - are exempted from vaccination: the theory being there is no need to expend funds on an animal that is to be slaughtered. The overwhelming majority of rabies cases have been in dog meat production areas, where there are few, if any pets of any sort.

This ambivalence on the part of the government may well be the largest factor in this deadly outbreak.

Rabies in humans are rare, but it is always deadly. Thirty-seven human cases have been reported in the United States since 1990, according to the CDC.

Rabies is usually transmitted via bites or scratches from infected dogs, cats, bats, foxes, skunks, coyotes and bobcats.

The CDC reported three rabies deaths in the United States in 2002, one in 2001 and five in 2000. The Virginia case is the only death reported so far in 2003.

Interesting story from UK regarding missing deadly E-coli, please note the inference within the article to immigrants to the UK and deadly outbreaks.

GERM WHEREFARE

Feb 22 2004
90 phials of deadly E-coli lost for 72hrs Terror link is probed by police and MI5
By Mike Hamilton

SPY chiefs were braced for a doomsday terror attack after lethal E-coli bacteria vanished on the way to a Government laboratory.

Police and the M15 were put on alert amid fears that the shipment of E-coli 0157 - sealed in a box marked "Bio Hazard" - had fallen into terrorist hands.

Four police forces and the secret security service launched a massive hunt in the North of England after 90 phials of the killer bug were lost.

The batch of E-coli 0157 - missing for 72 hours - is the same type that killed 21 pensioners in Lanarkshire in 1996 in the world's worst-ever food poisoning outbreak.

And it was feared the death toll would have run into
thousands if a terror group had managed to "weaponise" the bacteria.

A police source said last night: "The consequences if this sort of material fell into the wrong hands don't bear thinking about."

Police from the Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire forces hunted the deadly cargo for three days before it was found in Liverpool.

And the Health Protection Agency (HPA) - responsible for the shipment - has now launched a review of procedures for transporting hazardous material.

The drama began on January 15, when a courier was sent to collect the phials - individually sealed in a vacuum box - from Liverpool Veterinary School in The Wirral.

The box should have been delivered immediately to the HPA's laboratory at Manchester Royal Infirmary. When it failed to arrive, workers raised the alarm and contacted police in Manchester. The three other police forces and MI5 agents joined the huge investigation. Three days later the E-coli was traced to an address in Liverpool. A 35-year-old courier company driver was arrested and later bailed pending further inquiries.

The HPA was set up last April to reduce the impact of outbreaks and infections - and to reduce the risk of chemical, poison and radiation attacks through a network of scientists and labs. It is also responsible for protecting the public from bio-chemical attack and has a research facility at the top-secret chemical and germ warfare labs at Porton Down in Wiltshire. Yesterday the HPA confirmed that a box containing specimens of E-coli 0157 taken from contaminated farm animals had gone missing but was later recovered "intact and secure".

The HPA's spokesman added: "We can give an assurance that there was no risk to the public. "A driver employed by a courier firm that specialises in the transportation of medical and laboratory specimens has been questioned by police.

"While this inquiry is on-going it would not be appropriate to comment further."
Defence chiefs fear illegal immigrants working in farming and the food industry could introduce the lethal bug to the food chain.

A source said: "There are hundreds of illegal workers from Iraq and Afghanistan working in poultry factories in the Suffolk and Norfolk area.

"We are worried fundamentalists with links to terror groups like al-Qaeda could get their hands on something like this and inject it into animals."

Terrorism expert Simon Reeve said: "Police know terrorists have studied the food manufacturing and distribution process in the West with a view to targeting it.

"Somebody who works in the manufacturing industry could use this or terror groups could alter the E-coli in a lab to make it more deadly. This is not as worrying to the authorities as something like botulism or smallpox, but in the wrong hands this could certainly be used as a terror weapon.

"It could also be used by a local, British blackmailer. The police have a responsibility to react to every incident and the public should be reassured by the fact they responded to this."

THE KILLER BACTERIA

E-COLI comes from contaminated meat and can cause severe food poisoning.

The highly-contagious 0157 strain can be transferred from food to people, among animals and person-to-person by touch and in food preparation.

E-coli 0157 also contains a powerful toxin that can prove fatal, particularly among children and the elderly.
Symptoms of contamination include stomach cramps, vomiting and kidney failure.

Infectious bugs such as E-coli 0157 cause one in every 15 deaths in the UK.

Swiss Police conduct Yukos-related Searches

The Swiss police on Thursday carried out a series of searches in companies and offices owned by individual businessmen who are linked to Russia's Yukos oil company. The searches took place in Zurich, Geneva and a number of other Swiss cities on request from Russian investigating agencies.

Yukos spokesman Alexander Shadrin has said that "the geographic scale of the so-called 'Yukos case' generates boundless respect for Russian law enforcement agencies, which seem to be trying to accuse one Russian oil company of all possible and impossible illegal activities. We are authorized to state that none of the firms controlled by Yukos and none of its officials in any part of the world have been subject to any searches."
