I would make a minor protest. I simply consider heros to be heros. Cleland does not fit the definition, as does Kerry.

I am wearied of those that wish to claim the status without the substance. Cleland merely appealed to the sympathy vote.

I agree with you, Hon. If these jokers are so anxious to trade on their military careers for political gain, then it becomes the responsibility of their opponents to point out inconsistencies. Also, Cleland forfeits any so-called "sympathy" treatment when he trafficks in his missing limbs.

Kerry uses his service record as a shield to protect him from question about his conduct in Vietnam Vets Against War, his testimony to congress, his relationship with Jane Fonda, and his 6500 votes over 19 years in the Senate. Give me a break.

And one more thing. I'm sick & tired of hearing the disclaimer "We aren't questioning his patriotism but...". We need to be questioning his patriotism. He has gotten our service men & women killed. He gave aid and comfort to the enemy then and he is giving aid and comfort to the enemy now. To HELL with Kerry.

And I've never heard a hero BRAG about his combat record. Just isn't done.

After a nautical maneuver that put his crew in grave danger (i.e., headed into rather than out of range of hostile fire), JF'ing Kerry abandoned his water craft & crew, ran ashore and shot a wounded, fleeing (cowering?) Viet Cong (likely) in the back. Is that likely war crime the heroic act upon which you determine he is a hero?

Do you have access to the written recommendation that described his actions and got him his Silver Star? I'd like to see it.
