BTW...that soil must be mighty dense since part of it appears to be caked flat along the center upper portion rather than collapsed as the rest is...almost as if it's "moist." If it was sandy [like a sand box] it would not hold it's form at all.

The best part of these pics - at least, for a philistine like me - is those tread marks on the sand. Made by monkeys on the next planet over, who just figured out how to send a robot to explore. No reason, we're just an inquisitive bunch of apes.
Those tread marks are the best thing, the most wonderful thing, that's happened to Mars in the last million years.
