Appeals court ruling favors Terri Schiavo's parents

The Associated Press Published on: 02/13/04

TAMPA, Fla. -- Gov. Jeb Bush and the parents of a severely brain-damaged woman won two appellate court victories Friday in their quest to keep her alive against her husband's wishes.

The 2nd District Court of Appeal ruled that Bush's attorneys will be allowed to question witnesses in the court battle over a law that gave the governor authority to reinsert Terri Schiavo's feeding tube after her husband had it removed in October.

The appeals court also ruled that Pinellas Circuit Court Judge W. Douglas Baird did not follow judicial rules when he denied her parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, the ability to intervene in the constitutional challenge to the law.

The appeals court ordered Baird to hold further proceedings on the issue.

Schiavo's husband, Michael, has been battling the Schindlers in court for years to remove Terri's feeding tube so she can die. He says she would not have wanted to be kept alive artificially.

The Schindlers doubt their 40-year-old daughter, who lives in a Clearwater nursing home, had any such end-of-life wishes and believe her condition could improve with therapy. Their daughter has been in a persistent vegetative state for more than 13 years after collapsing from a chemical imbalance.

>> Jodi cannot obtain the same lawyer. This case is really taking some strange turns!!

Isn't it, though! Hard to imagine anything much stranger than George Felos -- a man determined to kill her -- "representing" Terri; and her husband -- probably her nearly fatal assailant in 1990, equally determined to kill her, and the one who would profit most from murdering her -- given guardianship.

Truth IS stranger than fiction, and this case proves the point!

How do you make a smileycon(?) face with droopy eyes on it? Yep, I still have a smitch of energy left. Counting down to Greta's rerun! Couldn't resist, besides...Terri has this funny way of making me stay up later than I really should!

I don't have cable, so I can't watch. This would seem to be about the once-per-year I'd like to see something on TV. Maybe you can give us a report -- but not tonight, save it for tomorrow and get some sleep.

Will do...sometime tomorrow like you said. Hannity & Colmes is almost over!!

BTW, what's it like w/o cable? I've almost always had it since I got married, as hubby is a sports fanatic, and could never live without ESPN. We always kept it in the budget from the first month we got married...and that was quite some time ago!

I was talking to Sarah Foster, who's written extensively on the case for WorldNetDaily. She said that a female attorney in Felos's law firm is the mastermind behind Michael's legal guardianship. The attorney's name escapes me, but it's in the literature and we can find it easily enough.

If this is so, she must be the original b*tch of Buchenwald. She doesn't have a kind or compassionate cell in her body. Guardianship law has been used to make Michael the absolute master, Terri the helpless slave. He's tormented and abused her all these years. Why? Probably because she didn't stay dead in 1990.

All this because he had to punish her for spending $80 getting her hair colored.

Aw, that's healthy enough. Besides, my favorite sports figure is from Orrville and played at OSU under Fred Taylor. I refer to the somewhat unruly but amazing Bob Knight, now coach at Texas Tech.

But to answer your question: sheer bliss never turning the TV on at all :-) :-)

I've done a ton of reading on this tonight. All I can say is WOW!This is all stuff I haven't heard before. I just watched Gretta and the latest on Terri's case. I say go Jeb! It is amazing what the press chooses to leave out of their stories. They only tell part of the story. The part they want the public to know. My prayers will be with Terri and her parents. Again, floriduh, thanks for the link to all this info!

Well, the 8-9 minute opening is over. Felos is such an @$$&*#!! I can't stand the guy! Wait a minute while I go vomit!!

OK, I think the wench's name is Deborah something or other. Not sure, but that's my first gut feeling. Yeah, she's a real piece of work!

I remember reading on one of the threads how you were at some function and ran into Sarah Foster and John Stossel. That was you, right? Anyway, I was soooo excited, because I would love for Stossel to cover Terri.

Amazing isn't it? Doesn't it make you want to know what else the press won't tell the whole story on? Then again, if I knew I'd probably pass out. But I can tell you for sure that I trust very little of what they say. I try to get as much verifiable evidence as I can on as much as I can.

Yes, you are remembering well :-) I'm not sure whether this is Stossel's beat, but we can try. I had a long talk (phone) with Sarah since, and know she is well informed and digging for new information.

I can't stand listening to Felos either. He's sick to the depths of his soul and seems to revel in his own evil. They should make him hand out air sickness bags before he says one word in public.

>> They only tell part of the story

They tell a false story. They want it to sound like a simple case of taking a brain-dead woman off a respirator. Terri is not on a respirator, she's not brain-dead, she's not in a coma, she's not in a "persistent vegetative state" (in fact, her injuries could be treated), and she is not dying. It's not a matter of "letting her go."

In other words, it's not an "end-of-life" or "right to die" case at all, but a calculated execution. The main motive is money -- a lot.

And he carries on and on that he's so confident he will get Terri offed sooner or later, and certainly has had a lot of luck progressing towards that end. Does the devil still make deals? Sure sounds like it.

You're referring to attorney Deborah Bushnell, George Felos's assistant in this case. She looks like a member of Hitlter's army from Nazi Germany.

It will be interesting to see how Baird handles this, guessing he won't like it.
Friday the 13th is a day Terri's family will remember.
Felos and MS will remember it too.

Felos claims to have spiritual insight, he should have seen this coming.
