I see a decomposition pattern unlike any basalt yet found at Viking 1&2, Pathfinder or Gusev. And Gusev is half a planet away from Meridiani.

Lacrustine deposit ejected from a nearby crater?

Not sure that I'm seeing the same thing you are, but the smallish rock just below the top and near the center contains an facial image as good as the infamous "face on Mars!"
