The administration rolled out its top immigration officials and several senior Republican senators yesterday to endorse publicly a guest-worker program offered by President Bush that could give legal status to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens now in the United States.

121- btttt - the clueless amnesty supporters cant seem to figure this out.

"NO JOB will be "safe" if this plan goes into effect. All a company would have to do is cut its wages in half and when most of its American workforce leaves out of economic necessity, run to President Bush and say we have "jobs no American wants" so could you ship us in a few hundred Mexican workers to take them?"

174- great idea -

"Actually, we need to give them a couple of years hard labor if we catch them, then send them back. Make crossing the border illegally something that doesn't pay off.

Just think what kind of border fence we could build with 12 million prisoners filling the fence building jobs Americans didn't want to fill."

Mexicans are not stupid Bob.

What you said here is just plain silly.

181 - "Actually, there was. The jobs will now be covered under our labor laws."

LOL - Have you ever read our labor laws? I have. There are so many exemptions, the only thing they actually cover is workers under either 6 or 9 years old, and ski lift operators at one federal ski lift in Whyoming.

(I am not joking - I tried to sue a few years ago and researched the laws).

Now, if you are sex or color or handicapped or etc.... they can be sued, but not for labor laws.

At least they would be covered under min wage and tax rules.

The vast majority of their current employers will dissapear and so will the demand.

Buh Bye illegals crossing for cash and carry jobs.

That was my point. That is why they come, because there is a great demand.

Kill the demand and you regain control of the process.

The devil is in the details, as I said and I am for doing something like this if they do not muck it up as they are prone to do.

This will take a couple years to work through and if it does not pass muster with the American public, it will not pass. If they muck it up and not rewrite the entire code, I would not be for it.

The courts screwed the 86 ideas because of loopholes in the code. That is why they gave up trying to procecute businesses. They cannot get a conviction and when they do it costs big bucks.

So why the heck did he do it?

Personally, I think its to wipe out that pesky middle class. Its a thorn in the side of fine elitist power structures the world over.

So, you voted for Vincente Fox in the last election?

American is American. The continent has nothing to do with it. Just ask a Canadian if he's an American. He'll set ya straight.

Your plan has many good points, but there is one you've missed and it's glaringly obvious. How about making a REAL effort to seal off border lands BETWEEN legal border crossings?

Seems odd, that GWB wants to go to Mars, yet protecting our borders is "not feasable"....

Pretzel logic.

BUSH TO CONSERVATIVES: "DROP DEAD"

Actually, I think it's a bit more profane than that. Rewarding lawbreakers, and loading the welfare rolls with parasites, is not what I consider a friendly act.

Rather than resorting to name calling. Please address the issue.

Bear in mind, I asked a Canadian, and he emphatically stated that he's a Canadian, not an American.

I ask if you can possibly be any stupider because we've engaged in this discussion for about 100 posts. An american is one that comes from the continent of america. North America contains at least 3 counties, Canada, the United States OF America and Mexico. So regardless of what your canucklehead or you say, he's an american. Unless of course, he comes from Quebec, and insists they are not only their own country, but their own continent.

It's not really profane when you consider most of the anti-immigrants are Bush haters and appear to be more happy seeing him defeated than victorious in November. They're not one bit conservatives.
