Maybe we are over rationalizing, maybe these ships are just for transporting people, LOTS of people. That is the easiest way to move people over long distances...

I often wonder and have stated if they just plan on running a few boats ashore loaded with an 'Army'.

An Army of 5000 men running all over the 50 contiguous states causing death and destruction would certainly cause a large problem for us.
