SANAA, Yemen, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A purported statement by al-Qaida in Yemen warned Saturday of a "major strike" soon in the United States.

The statement, distributed by the Yemeni Tagamoo Party for Reforms, said: "A major strike, a big event will take place in America soon," reminiscent of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Bunk. No offense NothingMan but that is pure, unadulterated bunk. You have bought the communist lie hook, line and sinker.

Instead of a direct answer to my question you engaged in just so much psycho-babble about some of the key elements of the continuing deception.

Sorry, dude, no sale.

milkncookies,

I addressed post 314 to you because it was in response to your posting of JR Nyquists new article in the post you made at 132.

I did so be cause of the similarity bebween JR's comment at the end of his article and my own position regarding Russia as expressed in the question I posed to NothingMan.

JR Nyquist said:

"After all, what country is the main target of the general’s criminal syndicates and agents? What country is the main target of this month’s nuclear war exercises? There is only one logical answer, and that answer explains the reason that some wars must be kept secret – even from the enemy."

I said in a direct question to NothingMan:

"Tell me one thing... how manytimes in the past two years has the United States embarked on a global thermonuclear exercise aimed specifically at Russia????

The answer is zero. This answer is placed on the right-hand side of the truth scales.

Then tell me how many times in the past two years have Russian's done this to America????

The answer is twice. 2 times. This answer is placed in the left-hand side of the truth scale.

Do you see the heavily weighted scale identifying Russia as a belligerent enemy of the United States? It's so obvious that a blind man can see it."

The similarites indicate JR Nyquist and myself are on the same page, and I thank you for posting his article. I think you agree with JR, and in that case you, JR and I are all on the same page. There a legions of us who are likeminded regarding Russia and the intentions of its current leadership.

"Nothingman: How does India fit in to the picture?"

Velveeta,

That (like Cuba) is getting out of the realm of what I feel that I really know much about. I don't follow India too closely. But they fit into the larger picture in that they are trying to reduce tensions and renew dialogue with Pakistan, and that has the crazies in Pakistan spitting nails. (They are afraid Musharaff will compromise on Kashmir, the disputed territory that they have fought three wars over in the past half century.) Rumsfeld had to personally engage in shuttle diplomacy in 2002 to keep nuclear war from breaking out. So they have come a long way . . .

They impact the situation in that the folks trying to kill Musharaff (and destabilize Pakistan) see India as the enemy, and Musharaff was already riding the tiger before this whole Khan thing broke (two assassination attempts in December). His back is really against the wall now. If he goes down, his replacement will probably be weak, the extremists will assert themselves and exert greater influence on the new government, and will seek to provoke new crises with India (as when Pakistani-backed terrorists bombed the Indian parliament a few months after 9/11).

This is why things are destabilizing. Musharaff is trying to clean house and for the Islamists this means war. For all we know, Bin Laden, Zawahiri, et al are not in Iran or Wazirstan Province, but as were KSM and Bin al-Shibh, are holed up in Karachi or Rawalpindi, perhaps under the protection of elements of ISI. If they aren't, it is a reasonable supposition that other senior AQ leaders are.

The assassination attempts against Musharaff were extremely professional. It wasn't a shoe bomber or a guy with nails in a vest. That indicates internal high-level complicity, and that is disturbing in a nation with a decent sized nuclear arsenal which helped create AQ.

China has had border frictions with India (not serious like 1962, but the frictions are there) and China is a strategic ally of Pakistan. It is uncertain under what circumstances China might intervene if nuclear war were to break out on the subcontinent and Pakistan were to begin to lose. (Somewhat akin to the question under what extreme circumstances might China intervene in a Second Korean War as they did in December 1950)

"It's criminal we aren't told of this"

I agree. But remember that report was issued in 1998. The man who headed that commission is now Secretary of Defense. This is why they put the pedal to the metal with missile defense when they took over in 2001.

The largest increases in the defense budget on a percentage basis have been for missile defenses.

"Why do your writings sound so familiar like I know you?"

I'm not sure. I haven't posted on FR since impeachment (5 years or so) and back then I am not even sure I posted but may have "lurked" for a few weeks.

I'm nobody famous. So I'm not on TV or in the newspapers these days.

And I usually know which of my friends are freepers and their "handles" (not sure that is the right term these days)

If you figure it out, let me know.

"But I don't think the puppet masters will allow all to show all their cards--certainly the puppet masters will not show THEIR cards."

We will *make* them show their cards. (Reference the axis of evil speech)

We are not going to sit on our hands and wait to get hit (as was the standing policy of the previous administration - - 1993 (WTC), 1995 (OKC), 1998 (Kenya and Tanzania), 2000 (USS Cole).

We need to know where the technology went, and we need to know it yesterday.

As someone said a couple hundred posts ago "we don't know what we don't know."

What we *do* know is that this nuclear octopus (as another poster aptly put it) extends over three continents (according to Tenet) and involves the most dangerous countries on the planet. And it likely involves the type of folks this thread has been discussing for X thousand posts . . .

"Fired from North Korea, the TD-2 can hit everything west of a line from Chicago down to El Paso, and the TD-3 (three-stage TD-2) can hit all of US. Fired from Iran or Iraq, the TD-2 can hit east coast cities, TD-3 would cover most of US"

This statement is according to every source I can find grossly in error.

I despise the North Korean threat, and believe the DPRK's benefactors in Moscow ((Yes, it was immediately following a visit to Pyongyang, North Korea by Russian President Vladimir Putin that the North Korean's began their nuclear sabre rattling, but Moscow's apologists see this as nothing but pure coincidental nonsense)) and Beijing are assisting in the development of the Taep'o Dong Missiles (Hwasong 5/6). Moscow and Beijing are in a military alliance, the alliance is known to many as the Shanghai Pact.

But, back to the issue of DPRK ballistic missiles...

The Taep'o Dong 2 in a two stage, liquid fueled configuration has a range of 3,500 km or 2,175 miles and could probably reach the US island of Guam. If the missile had a third stage added to increase its range to 4,500 km or 2,796 miles then they could effectively target most of Alaska.

North Korea is still developing a Taep'o Dong 3 (Hwasong 6)ICBM with a range of 8,000 km/4,960 miles. This three-stage missile would enable Pyongyang to target the West coast of the continental United States.

There is nothing I can find to suggest that North Korea currently is capable of targeting all of the continental United States.

Can Russia? Yes.
Can Red China? Perhaps.
Can the DPRK? No.

"You have bought the communist lie hook, line and sinker."

Yep. I guess I am a pinko, commie dupe.
Can't argue with that can I?

"Instead of a direct answer to my question you engaged in just so much psycho-babble about some of the key elements of the continuing deception."

Instead of responding to a couple of lengthy posts that went into some history, you dismiss me as a dupe (a willing dupe if you think me duplicitous, an unwilling one if you think me a moron) of the master deception.

If you want me to spend time responding to your arguments (some might consider them personal attacks). You can make the case that my opinions are idiotic without making the case that I am an idiot. This is why I normally do not post on political forums. Folks take things way too personally and make things personal themselves.

"Knowing thine enemy". Is not psycho-babble. Trying to discern intent (be it that of a friendly, a neutral, or an adversary) is not psycho-babble. Trying to put yourself in the shoes of the "bad guy" (or the potential "bad guy") figuring out how he thinks, and then trying to figure out what he is going to do next is not "psycho-babble".

"Yep. I guess I am a pinko, commie dupe."

I did not say that, but you have. It is disingenuous of you to imply that I did.

"Knowing thine enemy Is not psycho-babble."

It most certainly is psycho-babble when you claim to taking cold hard looks at Russia and arrive at the conclusion that its current government is not the number one threat that faces the United States of America.

If someone points a loaded nuclear gun at you, which is exactly what the Russian government of Vladimir Putin has done, is doing, and will do again in another week or so it is more than indicative of intent.

Only a blind man would miss the threat.

To ignore the threat is ludicrous and potentially suicidal.

"This statement is according to every source I can find grossly in error"

Sean,

I put up portions of the declassified 2001 NIE. It is on the CIA website. Do a search .
You can also run a search for the 1999 Congressional North Korean Advisory Group.
I also linked the Rumsfeld Commission Report. It too goes into some detail.

I cannot say the missiles are operational as the last flight test was August 31, 1998.
It had a third stage that the North Koreans claimed was a satellite (SLV in the report means "space launched vehicle"). Some people say this third stage (a dummy warhead) fell into the water off Hawaii. There is another story that it landed somewhere in Alaska.

Your 3500 km figure is from a 1995 Clinton-era estimate. They fudged the numbers to keep a newly elected GOP congress from having the evidence needed to overcome the Clinton resistance to missile defense.

If you don't accept a Bush Administration public CIA estimate, and you don't accept the findings of committee of a Republican congress formed to challenge the Democrat version of reality that *you* seem to accept "hook line and sinker" (but I respect you too much too imply you are a dupe or an idiot), then you will not be satisfied if Moses came down from the mountain.

The Russians have the "Shanghai Pact" with China. They also are a member of the North Atlantic Coordinating Council (NACC) with NATO, and provided America access to Russian bases in logistical support of activities in Afghanistan. And they have served alongside American soldiers in the Balkans.

The President must be a commie dupe as well. *tongue-in-cheek*

TD-2 in a three-stage configuration is 10,000 km (western third of US)
TD-3 will be all of US.

But heck, if you like the Clinton estimates better, be my guest.
I hope you are right.

Latest from IH:

most of you dont even have a clue of who Al-Qaida really is, you think that your armys and your troops can stop people with strong faith and love for god and for justice!! these are not fighters for money or wealth, they are freedom fighters for god , not freedom fighters for america the american goverment.

i am really convinced that our enemy is getting very weak, and god is bringing out day by day all the lies of your goverment infront of your eyes and i am still hearing some singing along!!!

saddam had nothing, your goverment lied to you and will keep lieing to you, and your troops will be killed and killed and killed till you take away these pigs out of our land.

your are just like any invaders in history and we all know what happens at the end!!!

dont think that the war has started yet everything you saw since 9-11 was just slaps on the face so that who ever wakes up wakes up and who ever wants to stay sleeping then good night.

and dont ever expect us to give you a day or a time, maybe a 5 min warning !!!

so dont beleave anything you hear on the news, yes the warnings are true and we will keep warning till the day has come.

FROM JOSEPH FARAH'S G2 BULLETIN

Just as the U.S. State Department approves wider contact with Iran and as members of Congress begin planning the first official trips in 25 years, Tehran is sponsoring a 10-day conference of major terrorist organization beginning next week.

The purpose of the conference is to discuss anti-U.S. strategy.

Among the groups headed to Iran to participate are: Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and al-Qaida allies Ansar Al Islam.

The conference, dubbed "Ten Days of Dawn," is designed to mark the 25th anniversary of the return to Iran from exile of the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who led the revolution that ousted the shah of Iran in 1979.

Officials said the conference, ordered by Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, marks Iran's investment in sponsoring Islamic insurgency groups in the Middle East, Asia and South America.
