Having a tale like that would sure be a great way to have a career giving speeches and interviews and selling books (only $16.95, operators are standing by) and so on, especially if the story was really detailed and dramatic and you could work up some stage emotion when you tell the story.

Good thing that Howard Storm is the real McCoy, since it wouldn't be hard for a huckster to invent a tale tale in order to milk people hungry for faith affirmations, eh?

If this story helps even just ONE person - I don't care if it's true, factual, funny to some, good, bad, or anything inbetween...it is worth hearing.

Most likely a hallucination.

I broke every one of the Ten Commandments.

He murdered people and made graven idols? That IS pretty bad.

My husband is a medical doctor and very much the scientist. Three years ago my spouse had an NDE. All his medical colleagues at the hospital who knew and worked surgically on Ed to save his life did not think he would make it. He remained in critical condition, in ICU, unconscious, for a month before he pulled through. During that time he said he saw a brilliant white light and felt the presence of a Supreme Being. The two talked and Ed felt so much at peace with no demands made upon him. He was given a choice to come on or go back. The Supreme Being said that his job on earth was not complete, as their were many patients that were still in need of his doctoring. Ed also did not want to leave me nor our young son who was 10 years old at the time. He asked if I would be with him. He was assured that his wife and son would be with him if he came back. He did not speak of his NDE experience for quite some time as he wanted to think about it. Little by little he began to reveal parts of it to our family. As he and I began to read books about it, we noticed the same similarities that Ed experienced. One, he has no fear of death. Two, a sense things happen for a reason and that in the end everything will turn out right. Three, a psychic ability. As a trained Ob/Gyn clinician for 35 years, he has always been good in listening to his patients and figuring out what was wrong. But since his NDE, says he intuitively knows before he picks up their chart, or knows the patient's name, or goes into the exam room for the first time. Other Ob/Gynys seek out his advice on patients that they can't figure out a diagnosis. The NDE experience changed my husband.

Wow, those demons enticed him to walk to the light, where it became increasingly 'dark'. They reacted to his prayers, or spoken truths, with anger and name calling. They continued to shout lies while they backed away. It sounds like demons and democrats have alot in common. Those evil demoncrats.

Having worked in an ICU setting, I've seen enough NDE's to convince me of their veracity. One big, hefty woman I remember in particular was pretty convincing.

She coded, went to a flat-line for over 30 minutes, and was unconscious (obviously) the entire time we worked on her trying to regain a pulse. We were successful and managed to stabilize her vital signs. In a few hours after she came around and woke up, she commenced to scold the doctor & some of the nurses for the cruel "fat jokes" they said while trying to resuscitate her. (Sick humor used as a coping mechanism to deal with all the death they see).

Anyway, this woman knew exactly who was in the room during the code and repeated verbatim the words they said while working on her. She even knew who said what. She also repeated some of the medical orders that were given, like someone hollering, "Gimme 'x' cc's of epi!" etc.

I won't even get into the topic of her recanting of the bright light and reunion with long-lost relatives -- all that's already been said and laughed at by the non-believers. Just don't try to tell me that genuine out-of-body experiences don't happen. This experience is just one of several I've witnessed.

My Grandfather was a Baptist preacher. He died in 1993. The moment he died, the "nurse call" went off in the room next to his. The room was empty. My mom believes that as his soul was leaving his body, it caused some sort of electrical disturbance that caused the alarm to go off.

Thanks, Quite a number have had such experiences.

Dr Eby sp? was an atheist MD heart Dr who died of a heart attack and had a similar experience. Ended up preaching the rest of his life.

I think Eby was recussitated an incredible number of times. As an MD, he could believe his body could endure that many recussitations.

The first time, he came back into his body, he was screaming--GET ME OUT OF HERE, I'M IN HELL--GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!

Then they'd lose him again.

He'd come back after being shocked yet again and scream some more GET ME OUT OF HERE, I'M IN HELL, I'M IN AGONY, GET ME OUT OF HERE.

The nominal, not real Christian Episcopalian Dr attending him was very annoyed and frustrated. He attributed it to the trauma of the situation.

But I think after the 7th or 8th or some such awful number of resussitations, the Episcopal Dr was exasperated at the blood curdling screaming about being in Hell and dismissively said

OH, PRAY TO JESUS AND SHUT UP.

That was the last resussitation. He survived and lived to tell his story about how Jesus came to him at that point and told him his life was not finnished.

"Just as man is destined to die ONCE and then the judgement..... " (capitol letters mine)

How does one reconcile Hebrews 9:27 with such accounts?? Can man die more than once and avoid the judgement and the wrath of God? This leaves me sceptical of the principal and his story. The prince of darkness is powerful to decieve.

I think this is a terrific thread, yonif, and I thank you for posting it. The article itself is fascinating--imagine someone going back on his life-long stated beliefs due to an NDE...Imagine how foolish he must have felt, after defending his atheism all those years, and now he must publicly disavow his earlier stance...

It's not easy to say, "I've been wrong, all along." It's not easy for somebody who doubtless had all sorts of scientific and rational arguments for the defense of his atheism to suddenly go to the transcendent, dependent status of a believer who declares that demons, yes, even demons exist and he has seen them...that the Christ he denied is the very Savior of his soul from the pits of hell...

Not fashionable, not "smart" and certainly unsophisticated, yet here he is...a curiosity to some, a laughingstock to some, and an inspiration to some...

God must love him very much, enough to die for him, to save his soul...I believe that's how much He loves us all, even the sinners who deny Him.

I personally haven't experienced anything like some of things people have posted here.

Yet I believe these things happened. Too many people have the same or similar experiences to simply dismiss it as a myth or other nonsense.

You don't have to personally experience something to believe it occurred.

He followed them shuffling along in his bare feet with the memory of pain in his belly, yet feeling very much alive. The fog thickened as they went on, and it became gradually darker.

Overwhelmed with hopelessness, he told them he would go no farther and that they were liars. He could feel their breath on him as they shouted and snarled insults. Then they began to push and shove him about, and he began to fight back. A wild frenzy of taunting, screaming and hitting ensued. As he swung and kicked at them, they bit him.

Even though he couldn't see anything in the darkness, he was aware there were dozens or hundreds of them all around and over him and that his attempts to fight back only provoked greater merriment.

They began to tear off pieces of his flesh, and he realized that he was being taken apart and eaten alive, methodically, slowly, so that their entertainment would last as long as possible. In that wretched state he lay there in the darkness. Suddenly remembering a prayer from childhood Sunday School class, he said, "Yea though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me."

To his amazement, the cruel merciless beings were incited to rage by his prayer. They screamed at him, 'There is no God! Nobody can hear you!"

If they were screaming "God is the enemy!" or "Don't follow God, follow us!" or something like that you'd figure they were sinners. The idea of shouting "There is no God!" sort of says evolutionists.

I saw this on a TV show a few years ago. It's a powerful story. But if not for the grace of God, he could have dismissed this experience as a hallucination, just as Larry Flynt dismissed his vision of angels during his brief conversion to Christianity.

Fortunately, we can know of God's existence through reason alone. From observing the beauty and complexity of nature, we can intuit a designer. "The fool in his heart says there is no God."

I had a heart attack eight years ago. They gave me cpr on the way to the hospital. The doctors at the hospital tried to revive me without success and pronounced me doa.

The guy from the mortuary heard me laugh while loading me into the van. I awoke to the hectic antics of emergency room doctors and really got to laughing.

Was I dead? I don't know, I was dreaming the whole time...A really great and hillarious dream, but no angels or light at the end of the tunnel.

I was agnostic leaning towards atheist when I "died". The experience did lead me to believe that there is more to life and death than we realize, but it's still a mystery to me.

Maybe doctors sometimes pronounce people dead who aren't, and nde's are just dreams.

Or...If I really was dead, this is one hell of a game that we take much too seriously!
