"It's a piece of tarp/fabric from the Rover (a piece of the parachute perhaps?) Go to the bottom right hand corner and scroll over to the left just about 10% and there's another piece of fabric. It's all over the place. The wind has blown it and that's why it's not in both pictures."Why do you have to ruin all the good fun with your dang logic and common sense?

Interesting.
There's a shark's tooth farther to the right.

well he is speculating. It could be a twist tie or something that popped off from the rover too. Either way I'd like to hear something offical as an explanation. They explained the bounce prints pretty good, so NASA what is that thingy?

How could a piece of fabric have two strips that stick straight up like that, there is gravity on mars.

Looks like a McDonald's cheeseburger wrapper.
Great. Now we've already littered another planet. ;-)

Since the before-and-after photos have disappeared, I've performed my own cropping of the originals and posted them for posterity
here.

Thanks! Wish NASA would address the question. If it's just little bits of torn fabric from the lander blowing around, they should say so!

"Just look at it. All smug and content with itself, like it is better than us. If it has a nose, I just bet it is looking down it right at us. Stoic little bastard gives me the creeps. I hate it already. "
ROFL!!!!!

Thank you. I am glad you thought it was funny.

Yeah, I guess. I wonder where it is headed? It must think it is very important to just snub our rover like that, without so much as a how-do-you-do. I've never wanted an obscure other-worldly anomaly more in my life.
