Everyone pay a Flat Tax of 10%. Done. No deductions. No exemptions.

"If it takes a person 12 hours to do their taxes, they're doing it wrong. Either they aren't automated, or someone else needs to be doing them. Or both."

Weeelll, no. See my other posts. The 1040 is the individual return, and can be quite complicated. The rules and computations bubbling around in it are as well. Yes, I am automated, yes I use an accountant when appropriate. Yes, it takes me more than 12 hours. Turbo Tax makes it feasible to do at all, but it still takes the "time of my life" which should better go to hearth and family, and the productive enterprises that the IRS requires all this overhead for . . .

my benefits are capped, and I don't make a million...

I don't think you understand how the system works. Your benefits are based on how much you've paid into the system and for how long. There is a certain limit to how much one can receive. The idea is that you receive benefits based on how much you've paid into the system. If the benefits are capped at a certain dollar amount, it doesn't make sense that they would pay over a certain amount (around 87k I believe). Class warfare and jealousy has no place in the Republican party. You sound just like a liberal.

too many people that don't contribute the 8% on all their income are making the tax laws for the rest of us that do....

Hmmm, I suppose that the rich in this country could state that too many people aren't paying a federal marginal tax rate of over 35%. Either way, they are paying more taxes for every dollar they earn than you do. You could say that you are freeloading on the rich. Of course, you socialists don't really have a problem with that...

It makes sense if you are a non-producer and don't really care about the long term economic future of our country. It makes perfect cents!

And there it is folks....debate over.

No American citizen is taxed too little. There is nothing wrong with a citizen taking as many deductions as the law allows. By taking those deductions to prevent THEIR MONEY from going to the feds it does not hurt you one little bit, because ITS THEIR MONEY. People keeping THEIR MONEY instead of giving it to the government is what conservatives believe. If you are concerned that someone else is not paying enough taxes then go vote for John Kerry.

Call me any name you want, but at least I have real conservative arguments rather than just complaints that others pay less than I do.

Thats fine. But until that comes to pass, stop complaining about people trying to protect their own money with the system as it currently stands.

Thanks. FDR created the ponzie scheme we call SS, and, like the Vietnam War will be LBJ's legacy, SS will be his. I spit on both their graves.

Discussing SS is always emotional because it is an illogical system. Applying logic to an illogical system is a bit like trying to put order in a disorderly world. Can't be done.

One of my goals over the past 20 years has been to make young people know that I oppose the system that will probably eat them up and that they will probably revolt against. I really believe it has the potential to destroy our country.

It took me about 1 hour. Had all my paperwork in one spot, just followed the bouncing ball, so to speak. We, too, got a lot more back this year than last. We are buying new furniture with ours.

I'm with you 100%. The other guy sounds like he's swallowing the class-warfare argument hook, line, and sinker.

So? It was appropriate to your post at the point in the thread with regard to the difficulty of doing a tax return and was meant to be helpful. Enough already.

I'm not. I don't know what you are talking about? You don't know what you are talking about (ss). That's okay.

Until we get a flat tax system, I can complain all I want about the government rewarding the un-conservative position on raising children, by giving a deduction to people who dump their kids in day care.

Sure, you can play the liberal class warfare game all you want to. That doesn't mean your position will be respected by conservatives though.
