I've never heard of windows imploding from cold either.
Probably not the situation in this case, but it is possible. I remember getting dinner ready one night when I heard glass shattering in my bathroom. I ran in scared, because I thought my son had hurt himself. No one was in the bathroom, but the glass shower door was shattered all over the tub and floor. The only explanation I could think of was the cold.
