Does anyone doubt that the dems in Washington did not know this already? They only regret that they weren't offered the same bribe.

Ho, Ho, Ho........
Never underestimate the man from Crawford.
He need not subject France to retribution when he can provide evidence of crimes to the new Iraquis who'll do it for him.
Repay the debt..... certainly Mr Chirac as soon as you return the bribes payed to you against the will of the Iraqi people.

So typical of the French. Primieval bottom-feeders, the French.

You know, leading up to the war, Kerry says he was on the horn to the French government. Gee, where are the transcripts of those phone calls...

Well, I could see Chirac in this role, but it's a little hard to picture a fine, upstanding feller like Saddam Hussein doing something illegal...

Hmmmmm. Is this related to charges that the administrator of the U.N. oil for food program was also bribed?

"I think the list is true," Naseer Chaderji, a governing council member, said. "I will demand an investigation. These people must be prosecuted."
This could be very delicious!

I would not be the least surprised if this is all true, and suspected it before the war. However. Guys, this is not exactly the most credible source yet. Iraqi media makes things up because they sound good. Oil ministry documents? Gave millions of barrels of oil (why not give cash, and sell oil)? To named entities like the Russian communist party - not to deniable fronts?
Maybe that is just how they accounted for it internally. It is possible. But right now it all suggests making it up to sound as incriminating as possible to fufill suspicions. It'd be great to have actual proof of this, and I don't doubt that something like it - at however many removes - probably went on. But this is not yet such proof of it. Our government saying "we are aware of the report" but not giving any further comment, seems to me wiser than a lot of the wishful thinking on this thread.
