Reps. Todd Akin of Missouri
Todd Akin is one of the good guys in Congress. He would be my Rep. if not for redistricting. Now, I have Lacy Clay, a big liberal Rat !
I am surprised that Rep. Jo Ann Emerson ( MO. ) isn`t on the list, she is usually pretty strong on immigration issues as well.
I myself am not in favor of any guest worker program, after seeing what happened with the H1B visa program, I think what Bush is proposing is lunacy.
I know he has ticked off a quite a few of my family members, and some are not going to vote for him in November.

"Our office has a stack of letters 8 to 9 inches tall already, and that's not including phone calls," Mr. Espinosa said. "We had to create an immigration hot line after the president's speech just for the calls we were getting. They're saying they won't vote for the president if he pushes this legislation."
YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Well done, Freepers!

I am horrified at the number of people who seem to give Bush a pass no matter what he does
It sometimes seems we're not allowed to disagree without being told we have wet dreams of Hillary.... eeek

The Republican Party has been getting in a bad habit of going against the wishes of many conseratives. Exactly what percentage of "conservative wishes" should be delivered to 20% of the GOP voting population? Especially a 20% that is more likely to sit at home or vote 3rd party than actually vote GOP?

So what's Bush supposed to do? Let the status quo stand? Oh, sure, that's worked well.
Deport 10's of millions of illegals? Sure, that'd go over real good with the moderate voters who decide elections.
At least the guy is doing what he said he'd do in 2000. Which is far more than anything a Democrat would do.
Go ahead folks, vote for a non-Bush, or don't vote. You'll get John Kerry and deserve him.

FR ran a poll...67% were against it. And that's just here on FR. You are in the majority.

You're no conservative What you actually mean is that I am not a PJB populist.

Rove is so SURE he has the conservative base "locked up", he thinks there is NOTHING Bush can do to keep us at home this November.
This Conservative isn't in a lock box, nor are many here. And we won't be staying home on election day..we'll be voting for an alternative!

Exactly what percentage of "conservative wishes" should be delivered to 20% of the GOP voting population? Especially a 20% that is more likely to sit at home or vote 3rd party than actually vote GOP? In Washington State the Republican party was willing to be anti, or neutral, to anti-tax initiatives that were supported by ~60% of all voters. Because Boeing and Microsoft did not like them. See Boeing and Microsoft only want corporate tax breaks - they feared that reducing the "peoples" tax burden would reduce the State ability to fund roads and such that the business's like. It is shameful that the Repubs here ignored their base.
On the national scale we have, inter alia:
- Immigration
- Farm Bill
- China Policy

What you actually mean is that I am not a PJB populist. I'm always amused by "mind-readers." Is that what I mean? Is anyone who believes in the rule of law a "PJB populist?"

When exactly did Bush come out and say he was for making illegals, legal when he was campaigning?
Now I understand why in, the last three years, we have been invaded from the south and north.
Do you know what is happening on the border right now, since he mentioned guest worker status for illegals?
I do not live in Calif, but my heart breaks for what they have endured for the last few years, because no one else had a problem, an ignored their problem with illegals.
Do you know that the State of Calif could build a 16 room school, every day, 7 days a week, for 5 years and still be short school rooms?
To: Bernard Marx
I believe you started the "mind reading" shtick with your assertion I was not a conservative. Sucks huh?
To: kattracks
"The president's temporary-worker program is a well thought-out aimed at improving border security, meeting our economic needs and being compassionate to those trying to improve their situation for themselves and their families," Miss Buchan said.I disagree.

When exactly did Bush come out and say he was for making illegals, legal when he was campaigning? In his campaign issue papers, in the debates and for 8 years as Texas governor.

No, you called me an "idiot." That ain't schtick. If Bush's base (conservatives) consists of a large percentage of idiots, then what does that make you?
I'm being run off from the computer for tonight but I'll get back to you tomorrow.
