No one is assuming it's going to be a slam dunk.

But if he is 'alienating' you on very many points, you must not have understood what he stood for in the first place.

He is not 'alienating' his base........that is, Republicans who were informed enough to know what goals he stated during his campaign.

And the vast majority of Americans understand that he has been forced to deal with enormous problems, and has dealt with them admirably and courageously.

And most conservatives understand the big picture, so that disagreement on a few issues will not 'alienate' them.......

I'll separate you from the Keysters and Patsters here, you know the "true conservatives" who paint the ugly face on conservatism.

Here's the facts: 91% of registered, voting, Republicans support President Bush and his re-election.

The missing 9% are not his base.

When I heard that Osama planned for 9/11 to destroy America by causing infighting to break us up a la Soviet Union.... I shook my head because I thought he was stupid and ego driven.

Then I saw how the Democrat Party had deteriorated to the point of behaving like an insane-stalker-lover threatening a murder-suicide.... if they can't America, NOBODY can have America. They'll sabotage us abroad to help regain the White House and to hell with the consequences to our security and international standing.

THEN I became scared...

The President's immigration proposal is already DOA in the House, if not the Senate, where John McCain has been pushing his own proposal.

No Jesse Helms was quite enough conservative for me. The powers you chose to gleefully pass to anyone with a R by their name belong to the states. Here in NC, we had marriage laws and sodomy laws that existed for almost two centuries before attacks by liberals.

Then it is up to those states to stop providing services to illegals. They dont have to wait for anyone in DC to give a cue. Cut back services use their own state and local police and maybe we wouldnt have to use the Federal gov.

We did. We had Prop. 187 in 1994 and it passed overwhelmingly. Then the federal courts killed it, and Republicans lost their testicular fortitude and cringed at the thought of being called "racist".

And now we're going to need either a Constitutional Amendment or a president who will appoint/nominate Scalia clones, NOT Bader-Ginsberg clones to the SCOTUS.

A US Senate GOP majority of 60 minimum might help also.

But don't work for the election of a conservative senator, just hang around here and bitch.

The grumbling is his fault, not ours--unless you'd like us to stop thinking for ourselves and march in lock step as if he were Stalin?

WHY do you grumblers always insist on using such ludicrous analogies??

NO ONE is suggesting that ANYONE walk in lockstep. NO ONE.

There is legitimate dissent, and then there is the whining-crying-screaming-distortionoffacts- idiocy that has pervaded this forum of late.

If you are in the former, then NO one is trying to silence you. If you are in the latter......shut up. :o)

Unfortunately, I've been in meetings at work all morning, so haven't been able to follow the dialogue on the thread. Sabertooth, as you and I have already discussed, immigration appears to be your key issue. It's not for many other people, though.

As mentioned, the President's immigration proposal is already DOA in the House. But if the Democrats were able to wrest control of either chamber of Congress or the White House, without doubt they would pass a bona fide blanket amnesty so fast it would make our heads spin. They would be aided by John McCain, J. D. Hayworth, and several other border state Republicans, which means they would have an excellent change of getting it past both the House and Senate. There is where efforts to kill any form of amnesty should be focused.
