Without stereo these rocks appear to be in the face (wall) of the crater . . . stereoscope shows that they are a "ridge" unto themselves . . .the crater "rim" is beyond the rock "ridge".

So were the rocks moved by the impact or simply uncovered?

Beats me! Though I'll not be surprised if in the coming days "crater" gets refined to "depression" or "hollow".

She said the team may try to access that flash memory tomorrow, where scientific and photographic data is stored, to do a health check. The day after, she said, they may try to delete some files, believing an excess of data in memory may be part of the problem. Good luck to them, but from here it sure looks like they are taking their sweet time. It's a good thing they work for the government.

Part Analysis Paralysis, part fear of screwing it up more than it already is I imagine.

Awesome pics. The limitations of the machine are going to drive them nuts however.

My understanding is that JPL is staffed only to cover one rover. They sent out two figuring they'd be lucky if only one of them landed safely...

Mars and geology ping

They addressed this during the briefing the other day and they have 2 different fully staffed teams on 2 different schedules (since the 2 landers are on opposite sides of the planet).
From what they said, there isn't a whole lot of extra staff and wouldn't want to keep this up for any protracted length of time, but this is a unique opportunity.

stereoscope shows that they are a "ridge" unto themselves Any suggestions on how a stereo viewer can be jury-rigged? I'd love to see these shots in 3-D but don't know how.

If you look at that like one of those Magic Eye photos...
Well...
Nothing really. It just kinda gives you a headache... ;-)

More of a vein than a bulge. This is better 3-D than that comic-book red-green NASA stuff. Do they think we are 8 years old?
