Between you and me, JP, I think that the hobbit hole posters are behind this; they do not want any new contenders who will upset their current claim on their 50k+ first thread which is the largest here on FR. Please keep this conspiracy theory of mine quiet, though....

The SM said above that he probably could have given some heads up. But frankly, if that's the worst faux pas we make in a day, I'll take it.

Like it or not, there were fewer occasions where we needed to pull posts from that thread. Besides, it wasn't until very recently that we knew that when we were moderating these threads it was causing systemwide slowdowns.
