I would think that the goal of an attack is mass casualties. Not sure that would happen if you blow up petro refinery or chemical plant 50 miles away on a Sunday evening.

I tend to agree with the poster above (can't remember who) that suggested the timing of the attack during the Super Bowl would have a worldwide audience, as millions around the world will be watching U.S. television.

Doesn't have to be an attack on or near the Super Bowl, just somewhere in the U.S. in that timeframe. It would surely preempt the Super Bowl broadcast and have a captive, worldwide audience. Good propaganda, good rallying call for jihad everywhere, great psychological effect on all watching.

Just a thought...maybe it isn't the Super Bowl itself that is the target but rather the broadcast timeframe when millions of people worldwide are tuned in. Any breaking news that was covered would have a huge and rapt audience.

You beat me to it. I was coming here to post this. Can you imagine what CBS would do if something like this were to happen? Break away and do the news or what? But really this is a good timeframe to do something like this. A lot of the security is focused on the Super Bowl. Hit the vulnerable areas elsewhere. Bars will be packed with fans everywhere.

I find it interesting they have said nothing about the Mexican airlines. There were some cancellations of the Air Mexico last time, right? Seems to me they have more of a chance to do something near the Super Bowl with an airplane coming from Mexico who probably has lousy security, IMO.

I'm so afraid all of this is a huge distraction. The terrorists saw what happened last month with the cancellations. Perhaps all of that was a test run to see our reaction. Now, do it again but as a distraction to do something somewhere else entirely. Al-Qaeda is known for being sophisticated when it comes to planning.

The thing I don't get is the terror alert not being raised. I know it costs money, but they need to protect their butts if something should happen while it's on yellow. At least put it up to orange til Feb 4 or something. Seems to me, that people do take it more seriously when it's at orange. And this being the Super Bowl weekend, I think people would understand the terror alert being raised.

We have to be right 100% of the time and the terrorists only have to be right once. That scares me. I'm praying like heck!

Interesting thought. Any idea of when it was built? Pre or post 9-11? Not that it would matter but it'd be interesting to see when it was built.

Yep...again maintenance and regular routine personnel at the stadium need to be vetted...I am assuming that has been done but it might not be a bad idea to have some crackerjack engineers crawl around the guts of the place.

Police have released a composite drawing of a motorist who sped away after his van jumped the curb and killed a chemist walking on a sidewalk in the Texas Medical Center.

Robert Leslie Burghoff, 45, of The Woodlands was killed in the 1600 block of South Braeswood on Nov. 20. He was studying the virus plaguing cruise ships, police said.

Witnesses described the van as white, and wreckage at the scene matched a Ford E-series van, 1997 to 2003 model.

The driver was described as a short Hispanic man in his 50s with a slightly rounded face. Anyone with information should call the HPD hit-and-run division at 713-247-4065.
