"Well, if a Dem is elected because "Republicans" or conservatives, unhappy about immigration, won't vote, I wonder how happy they'll be when our new Pres seeks permission from the UN/"world community" before making decisions. And, will they be happy when 9month fetuses are aborted? And, will they be happy when the Supreme Court consists of ONLY liberal judges? And, if some of those unhappy "Republicans" happen to be Christians, will they be happy when God is removed from the Pledge of Allegiance and when they can no longer say God or Merry Christmas (I know, this is happening today)? Even if we do not agree with everything our Pres does, there is no candidate who would be a better leader for our country."
You sound like a decent thoughtful person. Just answer me this; why is the President proposing amnesty?? I would expect this from Lenin or Karl Marx......not the man I voted for!!

Brainfart:
I am shaking the cobwebs out of my brain and it came to me so simplified:
The Dims support allowing amnesty for illegals, they support any GW program and the upstart in congress Guitierrez of Chicago! So clearly, any GW proposal by anyone other than Tancredo, who gets in the dirt at the border's and has a good plan, would rile the dims, yes?
How then can we say GW's GW proposal is conservative and how can conservative Republicans support it in good conscience and side along with the dims?
Is it me, or is this a 'massive' contradiction?

Re immigration proposal- thank you, I believe I am a decent, thoughtful person. I support the President but not blindly. I support him because I believe he loves our great country with every fiber of his being .....just like I do. Therefore, I trust him to protect our country. I also realize he's a politician and he must compromise on some issues. BUT, again, I believe he would not compromise to the extent that he would place the country in danger. When I heard of the immigration proposal, my initial reaction was,'IS HE NUTS?!', 'HE'S GOING TO LOSE VOTES'. I was/am also concerned about making it easier for terrorists to get into our country. Then I calmed down and began to listen to various viewpoints. I heard an economist speaking with Brit Hume and he explained how the proposal would help our economy and then I heard that Newt Gingrich supports the proposal and I respect his opinions. The President put this forth knowing it would not be popular, so he must believe that it has some validity. I believe the proposal is not a true amnesty, although, I have not read the proposal and it may just be semantics. In the end, I continue to support the President since,I believe, he has a high degree of integrity and he is a strong, caring leader who will do what is right for America, even if it's not popular with the UN and the 'world community'. I also support him because we NEED to appoint judges with plain ole common sense. The liberal judges in today's courts are changing the America founded by our forefathers. Some judges attempt to protect the rights of some by restricting the rights of others.
