The Fonda px is not the only one to vanish. A couple of years ago I saw a px of Kerry and Angela Davis at the front of a demonstration. I can't find that photo anywhere now. I do wish that I had saved it to disk.

My memory had it being at one of the anti-war rallies where they were caught together. Mom, the Angela Davis photo would be cool, too.
Both would play real well with patriots in both red and blue america.

For what it's worth, Kerry's comment to congress asking them if they understood what it would be like asking someone to be the last soldier to die for a "mistake" kind of made sense. If we had lost our will to fight, then something had to be done for the grunts.
But that doesn't mean I want someone elected president who had those other lapses in judgement. And besides, what about the phrasing of that comment? Was Vietnam a mistake? I don't believe so. Leaving Vietnam was the mistake. I think it led to 9/11, in fact.

Thanks for the link. I'll be joining. If somebody has a Vietnam veteran ping list this would be good to distribute.

I still remember the pictures of the evacuation of Saigon.
The helicopters tossed in the water. Panicked, fearful, screaming Vietnamese held back by US troops. Copters leaving the embassy packed with people.
That said, he can be clobbered by Bush.

The mistake comment is correct but facile and simplistic. Asking or being the one would be dreadful, to say the least. Useful for a debating tool, but ultimately focusing on Vietnam too much could cause him more trouble than its worth.

It's the "Viet Cong" Flag. The communist rebel allies of the communist North Vietnamese.
Rick "Doc" Doggett, left, and John "Crazy" Sigouin hold a Viet Cong flag captured by CAP 2-7-2 in a firefight on May 8, 1970. The article below is from the U.S. Army's 9th Division newspaper. It explains the history of the flag and its symbolism.
VC banner symbolic
(1968)
DONG TAM (9th Inf)-The Viet Cong flag dates back to 1954, when founders of the National Liberation Front, the political arm of the Viet Minh, designed the red, blue and yellow standard.
The flag is divided horizontally into two equal parts with a five-point star in the middle. The upper section is red and stands for blood spilled by the people in their alleged fight for peace, represented by blue in the lower half of the flag.
The yellow star stands for the Mongoloid race; each point represents a separate class. The top point symbolizes the students. The other points moving clockwise represent farmers, industrialists, merchants and soldiers.

When Kerry pontificated at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Veterans Day, a group of veterans turned their backs on him and walked away. They remembered Mr. Kerry as the anti-war activist who testified before Congress during the war, accusing veterans of being war criminals.
The dust jacket of Mr. Kerry's pro-Hanoi book, "The New Soldier," features a photograph of his ragged band of radicals mocking the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, which depicts the flag-raising on Iwo Jima, with an upside-down American flag.

The figure of Kerry here is cut out and superimposed on the Viet Cong flag. It's a fake, and a bad one. The pixelation of Kerry's face, his hair, his uniform, is all much, much more coarse than that of the flag. Not only that, it has a distinctive pattern that looks as though it was only partially descreened after being taken from a newspaper photo.
