Looks like flash memory might be the culprit. The rover has re-directed it's boot process away from flash to RAM. Looks like NASA/JPL have a good handle on this...!!

Can't they flush the FLASH and ferret out the flaw?

Remember that this was all kicked off by Sequence 2502. Is JPL suggesting that the above statement is related to the flash memory problem?

There was a time when all that computer jargon was impressive. These days I wonder why anyone would want NASA to do anything more complicated than tying shoelaces.

They fear false findings, and that's why they won't flush the flash. Foolish. In fact, very few folks figure that ferreting flaws focuses efforts toward final fixes.

The flash memory currently contains science data that they would like to preserve if possible. As a last resort, they can format the flash and reload the software image and then examine the flash for inconsistencies?

Looks like flash memory might be the culprit. I still say that they didn't waterproof some wiring connections and things got wet when it splashed through a mud puddle. Same thing used to happen with the electronic ignition on my old K-car.

Wow, I read that article 3 times and still......may as well have been written in Chinese. Is this a high tech version of the blue screen of death?

Nothing like having flawed mission critical software.

Thanks for the post. Enjoyed the read, though a bit over my head. Like you said, it looks like they have a handle on it. Still hard to believe we have any control over stuff up there on that little speck in the sky.
