If it's like remote sensing programs, it isn't easy to get natural color by combining several color bands. The presentation of combined color bands is normally adjusted to whichever false colors best show certain features.

Yes, but we're trying for the real color of the rocks here.  For that to distort the whites to pink and every other known value to red doesn't jibe.
