A marvelous discussion-starting movie is Tuck Everlasting. If it doesn't make the movie list, it should make their top 100 books for kids list.

Gee, how could they forget "Midnight Cowboy" and "The Deer Hunter"????

Obviously, somebody screwed up. This appears to be a compilation of moderate movies for kids. Somehow a few of the liberal movies for kids were snuck in, but I'm surprised they missed out on such liberal kiddie classics as "Behind the Green Door" or "Debbie Does Dallas".

23. "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951)

I could agree w/ this if, and only if, it is accompanied by the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 commentary.

33. "Gandhi" (1982)

A perfect illustration of the saying, "The mind can only absorb what the seat can endure." The only movie my husband and I ever walked out of from sheer boredom.

With it being AP, I would have expected "How to Blow Yourself up for Allah."

Sound of Music is on the list, and I think it should be higher.

First list of a hundred movies I've encountered where I've seen the majority. Some are definitely for older kids, and kids like me who are ageless.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a great film to educate kids about how business, government and the media work together for their own benefit against the general public and should be a must see for kids (just please explain to them the ending is pure feel good fiction - the good guy never wins in this scenario). Once that is understood the kid will be prepared for life.

My kids loved the movie "Spirited Away". I'm surprised it is on the list, but my kids would agree.

I didn't look at the movie that way. I just saw compassion in the strangest of creatures, and the need to form a loosely-knitted group for a common goal. As they stayed together for whatever their individual reasons, their common traits surfaced and each provided a contribution and a need to stay together in the most difficult situations.
