"When a carton of my cigarettes went up to $45-$50 from state taxes, I started rolling my own. I roll a carton for a little under $8 dollars."

Same thing here, except winemaking. I can make a whole bunch of $25 bottles of wine for about $45. Washington State taxes be damned!

Most ban-free places, has smokefree establishments, by choice.... I would seek them out, were I a non-smoker.

The lawmakers will never learn!

It's the American Way to shop cheap. I don't understand how they think they can get away with this for very long before people wise up!

BTW, voted. Even though they don't care what we think when they push these restrictions through.

Polls are virtually useless. But, it's a kick to bump em up.

I don't know when the lawmakers will ever learn. It's the American Way to shop cheap. It's our civic duty.

So I wonder how long they think they can keep taxing us to death on a legal commodity before we wise up! It's their loss!

I'm and adamant anti-smoker and I voted NO.

Also, the question on the poll is misleading. Restauarants and bars are not "public buildings", they are private buildings .... unless the county or city or fed gov. owns the building, in which case I would support a ban.

This is not a smoking issue, it is a property issue.

Thank you.

If more people had your attitude, this would be a non-issue because businesses would be able to make their own decisions based on customer and employee input.

I find now that I have a problem with cigarette/cigar smoke. I detect smoke within 3 feet of me and it's not pleasant. Doesn't help matters either to lose several relatives, including my 2-pack a day older brother, to lung cancer. My sorrow is knowing that my son smokes but refuses to give it up because he says "he likes it." He's addicted.

My sorrow is in the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. More families have been torn apart due to alcohol, spouses and children beaten due to alcoholic parents, fights at work, on the streets, in the stadiums, in the bars, all due to alcohol! And we certainly can't forget about the highway tragedies due to alcohol consumption!

While I share your pain, I question your priorities! How come I'm not seeing the same community outcry against alcohol that I am witnessing against the smokers?

Agree with you on alcohol. Seems there should be an outcry. Bet members of MADD would have something to say about alcohol.

"This is not a smoking issue, it is a property issue."

Exactly! I have no problem with Government imposing smoking bans in Gov buildings. Imposing them on private property owers, such as restaurant and bar owners, is another story entirely.

...PING...

Sorry for ping this again, as I know these online polls are trivial and useless (Indulge me). But it is fun to see the good guys win them!

The poll will end Jan 31, and I'd like to see the nay's (i.e. pro private property right) up a bit more. At one point the good guys were up by 30 after some freeping :) Now they are down a few…
